I've dabbled with mods and cc but almost always uninstall them shortly after. It makes me feel like my game is "dirty," if that makes sense. I like when my game only has official content.
Cc appeals to me but I like putting my builds on the gallery and I want everyone with the packs to be able to download them. It also feels like a bit of a fun challenge to work only with what we have, to be creative with it.
I am considering downloading MCC again for story progression, since I am for once enjoying playing with a family again but of course my kids don't really have friends to play with, the premades and townies not having children and all. I hate that I have to intervene for literally anything to happen to sims outside of the active household. My sims' friends are STATIC. No promotions, no relationships, nothing. So that I'll download a mod for.
I don't like mods that add new gameplay, like birth control and new activities etc - preferably only mods that slightly modify existing things. Minor things that subtly improve the experience without making it feel like a different game.
Once TS4 has stopped producing content to move on to TS5, I'll start downloading more mods. I want to wait and see how good the game is without mods first, how it feels to play the completed game vanilla etc.
Little mods would be improved organization of bookshelves and chests, a toggle to only be allowed to cook food if you have the ingredients in your inventory/fridge, the world selector screen being replaced with a large interconnected map of all the worlds etc. Bigger mods would be features I need in the game that weren't added, like nectar making (will be fuming if they don't officially add this), more methods of food preservation like canning and jamming, a chicken coop etc.
I might also consider downloading cc like a notebook that allows me to write novels (no computers for my medieval sims) and maybe some more historic clothing, if we don't get those officially by the end.
