I'm pretty sure you needed plasma fruit in the inventory to even make the salad? That's what my vamps clearly see. Regardless I've learned that it's very cost-effective to make a party meal of the salad, and will only waste one fruit. I tend to have to eat two of the salads just to bring their thirst to comfortable levels, and maybe a plasma pack to round it out if need be.
