Duane Talla

I finally got around to reading the descriptions of the premades in Sulani and I realized that the teen in the Kealoha household, Duane, has a different last name and is a teen while the other older Sims are young adults and a bit too young to have a teen son. Thinking it was just an oversight or something, I took the family into CAS only to find that he actually isn't related to the other household members. I checked the wiki and there's no real explanation other than a theory that the Kealoha's might have taken him in after he was orphaned/abandoned. I've yet to play the household so I don't know any other details. Any theories?

  • I think he's a freeloader xD I moved my family to Sulani, and they have a teenage daughter so I was very happy to see him walk around, being the only teen in the neighborhood. So they became friends, which is easy but I wanted to have her fall in love with him. You know, first love on the island and stuff but damn he's hard to get xD Also sometimes very weird because she flirts with him he rejects her but the same conversation he starts flirting with her, as if he wants to be the one making the move, old-school style. Anyway, I noticed he often just stops by but he doesn't knock on the door, (doesn't have a housekey either!!) and when he's there he makes himself comfortable. He just starts doing all this stuff, cooking, taking a bath with rose pedals or in mud, and sometimes he just opens the fridge takes out leftovers and eats them but he also just comes by to clean sometimes? It's funny but also weird especially because every time I invite him to hang out at the loft, he never leaves xD and if I ask him to leave he will just stop by a day later, drop in drop out kind of thing. Oh and I had her ask him about his career he said he's unemployed.

He actually has the lifeguard career in my game. I picked his family to play and I grew up the daughter really fast because I wasn't in the mood to deal with a toddler, or a child for very long. But once she became a teen, I didn't want a romance to develop between them and the parents do seem too young to be his parents, so I used MC Commander to make him Lilliana's (the wife/mother) brother.

I think he is just supposed to be a kid the Kealoha family took in.

So, with Duane being a teen at the start, I noticed something strange about him. I don't know if this was intentional, since it's pretty obvious he was modeled after Maui from Moana, (especially since his name is Duane, like Dwayne Johnson,) or if it's an actual bug, but Duane seems to skip the young adult stage and goes straight into the adult stage. I noticed him next to my sim's sales table talking with Tia Hauata. I scrolled over him and did a double take when his age read as Adult. I moused over Tia, and she's still Young Adult. I know that's not possible, since he starts off as a teen. What's going on with poor Duane, lol?
  • I removed the whole family after playing a new group of Sims I created just for the Sulani experience. For some odd reason the whole family had a grudge or something against the six new Sims I had made. They went out of their way to make life miserable for my Sims, hated my pets and caused random arguments and fights with the male Sims. Whenever my Sims took their dogs for a walk someone from the Island family went out of their way to scold the dog, and for no reason since my Sims always cleaned up after pets. Maybe this family was glitched or something in my game, which would explain their dislike for non-island born Sims. Duane acted as if he hated the whole world except when it came to helping himself to everything in my Sim homes on the rare occasion when he was invited inside. I tried socializing with them, but after a few Sim weeks I realized there was no way that family was ever going to accept my Sims living in Sulani, and moved the Keoloha family into the witness protection program.
  • I have checked in with the various pre-mades in IL even though I did that and then put them to one side for now.

I don't know that I'll fully play out all of the houses but I did get a sense of where I'm going with some of them.

As for Duane, I said that the Kealohas are fostering him. The local culture is a bit different than others. I'm keeping them pretty isolated and making it a trek to get out there. I'm also playing it as some kind of territory, sims can move there but it has its own local government and laws. I don't let sims hop back and forth between there and the other worlds. I also ignore the Sulanians in any of the other worlds. (Sure, it would be nice to set that in the game settings but I'm fine with ignoring them.)

Anyway, Sulani natives often tend to grow up faster than in other cultures. Lilliana and Makoa married young but have a stable family. They took Duane in at the urging of the community. I'm playing him as an orphan but no, I probably wouldn't pair him with the Kealoha daughter. Too close. Anyway, he's still a teen but I'll keep him playable. I'm not quite sure what he'll do but I know that he will move out and be independent soon, possibly while still a teen.

I've got back stories going for the various other houses, I don't know how much of them I'll play out. I like the idea of it being a tribe with just a few outsiders who need to get familiar with the locals to actually live there ... but I might also add a "resort" on one of the beaches when I get around to it. I just wish I could combine a restaurant and a spa because I only want one beach lot to be like that.

It's a work in progress but lately, I'm getting familiar with Get Famous and revisiting my Windenburg households.
