EA: Fiscal Year 2019 was The Sims 4's strongest year

From EA's earnings call:

As we wrap up FY19, I also want to highlight the continued success of The Sims 4, which has grown every year since we launched. We launched three new content packs and multiple game updates for our Sims 4 community throughout the year, all of which contributed to a 35% year-over-year increase in active players and our strongest year of engagement yet for this ongoing live service. The passion of our Sims community is incredible, and we look forward to bringing them many more great experiences in the year ahead.

Further breaking down digital net bookings:
We are also forecasting further growth of our Sims 4 business, off of fiscal 2019, which was its strongest year ever, including the launch year.

So FY19 (April 2018 - March 2019) was TS4's strongest year in both active player count and sales. EA is also forecasting TS4 to generate even higher revenue in FY20 (April 2019 - March 2020), likely due to the increased number of packs to be released in FY20 (we only had three packs in FY19).

Anyone who's worried that TS4 is "slowing down", worry not as TS4 is stronger than ever and will continue to grow :)

  • This is wonderful news. I look forward to years of new content for The Sims 4 to come, as the developers have repeatedly confirmed.
  • As someone who was absolutely not in love with TS 4 in the beginning I've been increasingly satisfied and enjoy the game more and more. Sure it's got its frustrations, bugs and glitches but on par for 2 & 3 for me. None are my "perfect" iteration for different reasons but surprisingly TS4 is heading in the bumpy but right direction for me.
Yes numbers don't tell the whole story and stats can be skewed/arranged/cherry picked to support an outcome wished for. If in this case they're supporting the game moving forward, I'm all for it. For the first time since it came out, I'm actually excited to see where it is headed.
  • Well that makes sense to me, more packs/options available, and sales including the latest EP were happening a lot.
  • I didn't even play 4 when it first came out (first time I hadn't bought a Sims game on release day), I came into it early last year and have been enjoying it much more since Seasons. There have been some much needed improvements made over time and I'm starting to enjoy the game a lot more than I was even a year ago. I definitely like 4 more than 3; 2's still my favourite and nothing will ever change that, I'm certain. But, I genuinely look forward to more content for 4 over the next couple of years, the last few packs have been really good and I'm hoping they'll keep it up.
  • This news makes me so happy to hear.

The Sims as a series means so much to me, so it makes me oddly proud to see it grow so much and do so well. It gives me hope that not only will we get a bunch of more content for Sims 4, but that they'll have a large budget to work on Sims 5 and make it great from the get-go.

    Long live The Sims :D

The Sims 4 is on Origin Access. I wonder how revenue for that is calculated and divided between the games that it offers. Also how it plays into the 35% player increase and how would it compare to other sims games if other sims games were also in Origin Access.

It also doesn't mention that it's the strongest in sales. Just in engagement and active play numbers, which once again suggests for me that it's currently working strongest as a fremium game.

At the end it says that it's TS4's strongest fiscal year as well.

Yup. Net Bookings = Net Sales in case some people don’t know what that means.
