All five of them are always in the apartment when it happens (aside from when one goes to work alone). Most of them are usually awake, too, but not necessarily all are. It stops when they all sleep, though.
There are buskers outside in the spice market, but unless NPC donations are being taken from my household funds it doesn't match. I'll try to keep an eye on that, though, since I have yet to isolate a trigger.
Also, it stops when they run out of money.
