You DO have to activate testingcheats true before you type in cas.fulleditmode, however.

This didn't help. I was trying to use their cheat for fix the relationship but I have no clue why it won't work (and I had testingcheats enabled).

This worked, but it felt like it took forever for me to find the right drop-down panel to change the relationship. Thanks!

None of the modifyrelationship cheats or the ones to make friends works for me, still though. I'd like to try to get those working, guess I'll keep playing with it.

Here is the system: Create a new family from the main screen, go to add a new sim and select "add from the gallery", every family you create get saved in the gallery, choose to replace the current family with the one you created already that has the wrong relationship, and then you can edit the relationship. Or... marry them in game.

Ok this is an old post, and I still have not find a solution to this by someone else (I know the solution) which amazes me, and the CAS full edit mode DOES NOT work on this. (rarely it does with some relationships) I will post this guide to edit family relationships to an already created family, just in case someone would search it in the future:

1. Open the cheat console ctrl + shift + c and type: "testingcheats true"
2. Now type: "sims.get_sim_id_by_name yoursimfirstname yoursimlastname" (The desired sim must be selected)
-It will pop up a large number. This is very important. This number is your Sim ID
3. Type again the same thing in step 2 but now with your desired target sim name.
-I mean, if you want to change your (example) son and mom relationship, you need to type the text from step 2 from both of them
You should now have 2 large numbers in the console. (SimID)

---MAKE SURE TESTINGCHEATS IS ENABLED, AGAIN! OTHERWISE THE NEXT STEPS WON'T WORK---
-In step 4 you will write your desired relationshipBit. (Obviously I mean, don't write the word "relationshipbit") you need to overwrite the word with These relationshipBits:
*family_husband_wife
*family_son_daughter
*family_parent
*family_grandparent
*family_grandchild
4. In the console, type: "relationship.add_bit yoursimID targetsimID relationshipbit"
-YoursimID is the large number you got from your selected sims. You need to write the whole numbers.
-relationshipbit DOESN'T NEED TO BE WRITTEN, it needs to be one of the 5 commands I wrote in step 4.

If it doesn't work, it's because for some reason, Testingcheats disabled automatically (It happenned to me several times) Write it again and make sure its enabled again, and repeat the step 4.

this was perfect thank you i forgot to put one of the sisters as sister instead i put roomate lol sorted now :) thanks

This cheat no longer works for me. I did everything you guys said and it still tells me I can’t edit pre-existing sims. Once in CAS I have to close the cheat window because it covers everything I want the change (the Sim family relationship tool).

I Found our an easier and more effective way to fix this problem! Recently I’ve been trying to find a fix to this problem with my own game. I needed to change a relation in my household from brothers to roommates! I recently found an easier solution than what I’ve read! All you have to do is enter CAS, then Firstly save that household, next you select add sim from my library, the add the Household you want to edit relations between, you should have 2 of each sim, out of the newly added sims select the one you want to change relations from, change the relations, then delete the original version of the sim and duplicates of other sims in your household. Everything should be fixed and this way all relationship progress should remain the same.
