Electives

I'd been griping about bad grades in electives but I had a sim with a level 8 in Wellness take a Wellness elective and he got an A+. Not sure if it's because of his high skill level but will continue to try out more elective classes. Also found out it's extremely important to get to the final exam and probably all the classes on time.

  • Thanks for this thread, as I was wondering about the same thing myself, especially if we take into consideration the amound and variety of electives. I guess having a Sim with a high skill that's required for the elective will give them an advantage, but up to a point. If their skills are maxed out, will the result be the same? And let's say that they attend all classes on time and get to the final exam. :)
  • My take on this is that regardless of subject (elective or not) there are many ways to achieve a good grade. Attending class, doing homework, presentation/term paper, reading up on required skill, probably even chatting with a professor. Doing all these things to fullest, will normally be more than required. I assume doing homework and going to class will be be enough if done perfectly. If my sim is late for class he will do some of the other tasks - like read a bit more on the skill - to compensate. One sim got the wrong presentation board and could not give a presentation, but still achieved A+ in that subject, thanks to working a bit extra on skills (or maybe he was lucky already being well skilled).

I did not think that electives come with any other "rules" than the regular subjects, but are more like a good way to select a smart elective for variety, but also if your sim already has high skills in something that is not directly relevant to the chosen degree. Could make that term easier, if succeeded.
  • One thing to note is that if you are late to a regular class you can select take notes during the class or maybe follow up with a prof after, but if you are late to the final exam you are toast as those options are not available. My sim who took the elective was almost a level 8 prior and only got up to a level 8 after, so I suppose his time was not wasted. I find it very interesting that the choice of electives is different for each time a sim enrolls, and I love all the possibilities. My last sim took 3 classes and still managed to hang onto his job in politics. This can't be done with the jobs that are not work from home. He had no time for campus activities and lived at home plus he set his lot trait to Study Spot.
