I played City Living for a little over a Sim week - long enough to take a look at each of the pre-made households that came with it. During that time I had them travel to various community lots in San Myshuno so I could see how things worked. I wanted to see how the karaoke place worked as well as the food stands and festivals. During that time I noticed that the common areas were always busy especially at night. I keep track of unplayed townies in my main game so I automatically started to do that with this game because I noticed quite a few new townies appearing every night.
I had assumed that weirdoes and raccoons would operate like the bears and ghosts that appear for Happy Hour. After I installed City Living the game generated 4 weirdoes and 4 raccoons. That number was fine but as I went to visit each of the pre-made households I noticed that the game was generating more and more new weirdoes and raccoons every night. The longer I played one household, the more the game would generate.
Generally, I review the townie population in my main save about once every Sim week to keep the population balanced. Under normal circumstances my game usually generates about 5 new townies per week. Right now it's going through a phase where it's generating 3 elder vampires, 1 alien and 1 adult female each week.
With City Living I found that the game was generating an additional 4 to 6 townies per day - not per week. This included weirdoes and raccoons as well as just random townies eating at the food kiosks. When I realized what the game was doing I started deleting most of the new townies trying to keep the number of weirdoes and raccoons at three each. However, the game would just make more.
Another thing that happened was that I started seeing more and more San Myshuno Sims at community lots and venues in Willow Creek, Oasis Springs, Windenburg. and Newcrest. They essentially started taking over the game. They were everywhere - parks, libraries, nightclubs, everything. I didn't even see the Landgraabs or Bjergsens anywhere and those two couples are usually everywhere. The only Bjergsen that I saw was Sofia, who appeared on every lot in San Myshuno playing the guitar.
I threw in the proverbial towel one night when I counted 11 new weirdoes, 13 new raccoons and 12 new random townies.
I uninstalled City Living because I don't have time to keep fixing it to suit my game. I know there are a lot of players that really like City Living so I know it has good features. I just don't have time for it right now. After I get done with the challenge that I've been working on since last August I'll probably give City Living another look. Maybe.
I hope this makes sense. I have pages of notes that I made while I was testing City Living. This is a small sample of what I wrote down about the townie population.
