Hmm...things I never considered before (in terms of gameplay).
Being Hispanic and LGBT, I tend to play white or tan-skinned characters. I don't know why, but maybe because I associate myself with those skin colors and naturally go with those colors. (I have a slightly yellow/tan color in RL.) It's just a preference thing, I guess.
Socio-economic? Well, I tend to play middle-class to (using "motherlode"/"rosebud" cheats) rich sims. I like my Sims to have plenty of toys and things to interact with. I tend to build big one-floor houses, too. I always have lots of stuff inside and outside the house, just in case my Sims have to entertain anyone.
In terms of sexuality, I tend to play mostly LGBT couples--mostly gay male couples over lesbians, and an occasional single heterosexual mother with children (I sometimes read gay male romances or slash/yaoi fanfiction, and I don't always like society's expectations regarding females and males in het relationships, so I sometimes like to play against the grain. :) Also, it brings some variety to the Sims world.) Because of that, I never got into the genetics legacy aspects. (Well, maybe with Into the Future expansion pack's "genetic engineering", I sort of can now, lol?)
EDIT: Oh! Forgot the religion aspect. Hmmm...I never considered that in my sims games, either. Since I like Supernatural and Fantasy stuff, I tend to not use real-life religion or holiday things in my Sims games. I just go along with the whole Grim Reaper/ghost thing. :)
