I used to make mainly white females, like myself, but now (Sims 4) I'm trying to make different races with their own distinctive features to broaden the gene-pool, and not just human looking Sims either. I also have a horned grey-skinned demon, a winged yellow-skinned fairy and lilac-skinned alien! I have never avoided playing any race of Sim, though I would avoid playing Vampires in the past as the daylight thing annoyed me. I do avoid some traits, normally. I like loners and dislike Sims with higher social needs. They usually all dress in western clothes (varying styles, from Goth to Glamourpuss), unless I have some really nice CC I want to use, like a recent Hindi/Indian Sim I made. They also behave in a western manner, mainly because I have limited knowledge on other cultures habits. I relate their soc-eco status to their Aspiration/personality rather than their race. Like a successful businessman would dress smartly, or a gardener would be more scruffy looking.
My Sims date whoever they build relationship with the most easily, male or female. I don't choose their preference, they do. All my Sims are bi as they have more choice of potential partners that way. As to romantic actions between Sims, I feel the same as in RL... If they are both hot, it's all good. Nobody likes seeing ugly Sims get it on though. Usually the Flirtiest one initiates actions as they have more options, unless the other has a Flirty Whim that they need to initiate. In all my couples there will usually be someone who wears the trousers (traditional male role), and the other will be more (traditional female role) submissive. The one with the better job is generally the one in charge, regardless of gender.
I didn't notice the absence of Christmas. I had Anglican/agnostic parents and went to a Church of England Primary School, so grew up celebrating Christmas. I am Atheist and don't associate it with Christ (it was Saturnalia before it was Christmas), now I think of it more like Yule/Winterfest. I would feel weird not celebrating it, though. In regard to my Sims; they are either Atheist or they worship the Sacred Plumbob. (There is much evidence in the Sim world that this mysterious floating deity has awesome power over Sim willpower, and some Sims even report natural disasters and deaths have been caused by this deity.) My Sims believe the Plumbob is the deity, they don't realise it's merely a tool of The One True Power. I usually play with aging off, because I like Sims to age up well. I get sad if a Sim dies too soon (unless they were mean to my Sim, that's just Karma), though I usually don't roll back a game. I like that Sims have an afterlife, because it is like an extended lifespan or an extra lifestage.
