Erik had the option to grieve with Takashi and I was stunned and elated at his response. It was quite touching and so rare in this cultural climate. "I'm sorry for your loss, Erik. I will keep you and your family in prayer." That's when I decided to age him down. He's a Keeper. :)
I've also noticed I only get good results by praising a butler and that they don't do a better job after a reprimand. Especially back when butlers had a real tendency to just stand by the bar and drink I always hoped reprimand would be helpful but it never was. I switched tactics and basically walked over and praised the butler for a great job(at drinking, I guess) and suddenly he started cleaning and making sure food was made.
There is an old (probably ancient) axiom. "You catch more flies with honey that you do vinegar." I've tried your theory out on the Nanny I had. I would have my star tip her §100.00 before they left her in charge, only to find her suddenly outside of the gate when they returned, and upon getting back inside greet the children the way she did when she first got there. And worse, still, the children were returned from Daycare! I am glad it worked for the Butler in your game. I've used the same method, but I couldn't have an evil butler left with the children. Just seemed so wrong.
