Oh my, this gets frustrating - it turns out that most produce I tested can be transported but with different systems; EL box, Sales table, or friendly gifting. I've not tested all produce with all 3 alternatives, but here is what I found - in case others might find it useful:
Eco Lifestyle boxes:
+ Milk and Eggs can be "Put away" which means stored in fridge and used for later.
- Vegetables and fruits can not be transported this way to be stored, the only option you get is "Eat item" (and probably "Plant" if placed on ground).
Sales tables (I tested a CC version, but assume they all are coded similarly:
+ Older produce like Apple, Mushroom, Carrot, Green Pea and Spinach all moved fine to the fridge. I transferred only one item per specie, but I assume bulks will work just as fine. I did not test cooking with them as ingredients afterwards, but I assume that will work (they looked to be normal).
- Milk, Egg and Raspberry could not be removed from the sales table to the fridge.
Friendly gifting:
+ Milk and Eggs can be "Put away" for storing in fridge, and used in cooking.
+ Basil (probably other herbs too) can be stored in fridge.
- Carrot, Spinach and Green Pea only get the option "Eat" (and "Plant" if on ground).
In short:
Use EL Boxes for Cottage Living produce. Friendly gifting also seems to work for these, but is more time consuming.
Use Sales Table for older produce (like Apple, Mushroom, Carrot, Spinach).
Friendly gifting seems to work with herbs and new CoL produce.
