The only premade family I've played with are the Kurtzes. I play with them because one of my Sims fell in love with Zachariah Kurtz and asked him to move in. Suddenly the game wanted me to play the whole Kurtz family. Now I play Zachariah actively, and I use his ex-wife as a maid for another Sim in another household. :)
