Feathers

I adopted a dog, and the dog automatically searches bushes and will find feathers and surprise gifts. The dog had found 12 feathers really fast just by playing in the bush up against the house on her on. There were two feathers she never got though, so I read up on it, and decided to get a cat, and head to Brindleton Bay. The only option when I click on birds are to chase, or scare. I am not seeing the option to command at all. My sim spent 8 hours at the park, continuously clicking on the cat to send out to prowl. The cat would leave, but just wonder around. The cat never attempted to prowl, and not once brought anything back. I am not understanding what I am doing wrong. My sim is maxed out in pet training. Do I have to have be better than friends with the cat? She is a new adoption, and only at friend level at this time. Any help is appreciated as I am stressed over all the time I have gone back and forth to the park trying to figure out how to get feathers with the cat. I forgot to mention that one of the cats traits is prowler.

Thanks for any help.

  • I got back on. I took my dog to the park instead of the cat. The command option showed up with the dog there. I am going to try and build relationship with the cat, and see if that will work, as even though the command is there for the dog, she was not able to retrieve feathers from the birds. She does a great job at home with the bushes I personally put out though. Just missing one feather now.

I don't think you can actually get any feathers from the flocks of birds you see around town in Brindleton Bay. I always chase them for my own amusement and they never leave any feathers.
  • @crocobaura @vmbos I did a little research and to get feathers you need to click on a flock of birds, choose the "chase" option & select a pet (cat) to chase the birds and come back with feathers. The cat also needs to have the Prowler trait. Also, you can only get them in Brindleton Bay, unfortunately.

Edit: forgot to add that humans & dogs can chase birds for fun but cannot get feathers, only cats can.

Cats can also get feathers from the pee bush. I put one on the lot and the cat uses it on its own, you can usually find the feathers on the ground nearby. One of my cats found all of them that way.

I noticed this when I put a pee bush on properties with animals, but the dog can also get in a fight with a skunk in the bush too, and need frequent baths, lol. My hunting dog that’s with a family in HOB is always getting skunk sprayed in the bush next to the house, but also gets a lot of packages. Another cat and dog I have with my twin soellcasters in Glimmerbrook also get a lot of things from the pee bush. It was nice to find that the bush had additional uses.

1.) I tried chasing and scaring them, and no, I don't get feathers.
2.) I take my dog to the park, and there are 3 options, Scare/ Chase / Command. The dog doesn't retrieve feathers though.
    3. )I take the cat to the park (who has the prowler trait), and the only options are Scare / Chase. The command option is not there.

That is where my problem lies. If the command option would show up, I believe she would have gotten some feathers. The only thing I can think of, is that perhaps I either needed a higher friendship with my cat, or the cat wasn't high enough hunting level (if there is such a thing because you can't see it). At the house, I have sent her to prowl several times. She leaves but just wonders off with the symbol of birds on her head and then goes and sits somewhere never to return. Perhaps because she is a prowler and lazy, lol.

I will just have to continue having my dog search the bushes at home. She has gotten all but one now, so I am hoping she can get the last one before my challenge is over.

Thanks anyways, e1! If I figure it out, I'll make sure to let you know what works if I do.

If you put a pee bush on the lot, the cat will use it autonomously every day, and you will be able to collect all feathers really quickly.
