These forums, and Twitter combined are but a speck of the current audience and don’t make a drop in the ocean for potential new players.
This is exactly my argument.
Attracting new players = good
..at the expense of losing high longterm buyers = bad
Potential new players only expand profits for the company if it keeps its current buyers as well.
Attracting 2 one time buyers who dish out $80 each while losing a long-term customer who has put $100s-$1000s loyally into your company for years mathematically does not make sense to me.
I love how people assume that companies are responsible, do research, and run data as if there is some kind of protocol. Study history, and you'll find out that many companies literally just wing it. Responsibility of research cuts into profits, so it just depends how greedy a company is to determine whether or not they care about their homework of potential losses.
If the highest donor, or even less than a dozen people who are at the top, think it's a great idea, it will be implemented no matter what. EA is too big to fail right now and can do whatever it wants. Yay for getting rid of all those monopoly laws in the 2000s!
Good thing EA still gets some things right when Maxis actually gets its way, or else I would have left the franchise a long time ago. I just miss the days when I bought every pack on day 1 release and was never disappointed with its content and quality, even if there was a temporary glitch here and there. I would love those days back.
