- So in short EA/Maxis doesn't care about consistent players (we knew this) and are looking to get new players who may spend $60 in the moment on the slim chance they'll spend $300 on the game (was pretty clear as well). Just me, but the logical thing to do would be make your base community happy, knowing they have positive things to say about the company/game and that would also help others make their decision on buying the pack. I recently had a conversation with my co-worker who isn't a Sims player. They asked if they should buy the pack with Star Wars coming out as they're a fan of the newer movies and my response was save the money. Once I explained they'll have to buy the base pack and then this pack that will only have give or take 2-3 hours of story line attached (based off of StrangerVille), that might become 6 because of all the stupid game breaking glitches they decided they weren't going to buy it. Seeing how un-supportive of this pack the community is I do not see a crazy amount of new players first buying the game and then spending the $689.66 (not including the base game and new pack) to "complete" the set. I know if I haven't played since the Sims 2 days I would not be spending my money on this franchise if I were them. Just imagine if EA/Maxis actually gave just a few of the things players have been asking for and then released Star Wars, I think the response would have been very different.

EA have had a few failed SW packs. What better way to recoup their cash? Put it in a community that will buy anything.
Wow I didn’t even think about it that way, I really hope everyone saying they won’t buy it doesn’t...- Gaming companies like to play marketing games with their loyal fan base... that's not a new concept. But gaming companies have been stung before when that loyal fan base starts to really fight back......
..... SimCity
..... Mass Effect Andromeda
.... both games are gone now.
This thing that's going on with the star wars GP... this is just a minor disagreement compared to the massive internet war over Mass Effect Andromeda. It got so bad, death threats included (involving the avatar designer) that the company just threw its hands in the air and walked away. Game dead.
How much money is the company making off the game now?
If EA wants to gamble with their loyal fan base for some newby accounts. Fair enough. That's their choice. I just hope EA understands that when they sit down with us to participate in such politics that we can play that game too.
In overview.... EA needs to be careful as to what kind of message they're bringing to the table. - I bought the base game, and every DLC to date. That's a lot of money I put in EA's pocket. To have EA suggest that my investment in their game so far warrants less attention than someone who hasn't spent a single dime yet on the game... that's very, very insulting.
EA doesn't find the time to offer us (high paying players) the respect of fixing the bugs, and holes in TS4 .... but caters instead to a bunch of people that don't even play the game... because maybe, they kinda might sorta buy the game as well? Really?
To me.... that's a perfect example of a cash grab at my (and other loyal simmers) expense.... using me (and them) as a tool to do so. After all... it was us... not the newbies... that funded the existence of TS4 to begin with. - Horrorgirl6Seasoned Hotshot

Can someone give me the tl;dr? I'm sure this lady is cool, but I'd rather not spend 17 minutes watching a video that may or may not just summarize what we already know/suspect.
Same, I was not going to sit through 17 minutes of her defending EA.
Also with a dang title like that turned tail quickly.
Then you’re complaining simply for the sake of complaining because it’s not a defense of EA, it an inside baseball if you will, peek behind the scenes of how this theme may have come to be from someone who actually worked in a video game company for awhile. She never once says EA made the right call here, she explains why they made this call, based on the potential for huge profits with two huge franchises merging in this pack.
I think what people are having issues with is that she just accepts that the way EA behaves as "just the way it is because of late stage capitalism", rather than calling out on how it is hurting the long term for short term profit, rooting for change back to fans first, and how designing for stock holders will ultimately lead to less of a loyal fan base who buys every EP/GP/SP on release day. Before EA bought Maxis, they made so much money from listening to fans that they needed EA's resources to keep up.
If EA has to sacrifice it's best selling PC game to pay back Disney, then maybe EA shouldn't be managing the sims. Every fan based idea/pack have in general sold better than those the community didn't ask for.
Since they botched the release of Sims 4, they lost millions of dollars for poor execution, and now us players must sit through Star Wars for them to make money back.
Sounds to me like EA cannot properly handle the franchise, as they lost more money than they know by lowering quality and community interaction.
Maybe someday they will either sell or a better competitor comes along and takes the majority of it's fan base. Then tell me how much money they'll be making by the potential of possibly attaining new players to pay their shareholders versus a buy every pack day 1 loyal fan.
EA didn’t just pull this idea out of their back...door. They ran demographic data, and probably focus groups and other analytics to be sure they have a good chance to make profits off this pack theme. If they thought they were making a sacrifice they wouldn’t be doing it. Something in their pre-pack concept analysis tells them there is good money to be made here, new eyes to bring into the game.
Something says they will have new people buying this pack who hadn’t played Sims before and in order to do that they will also have to buy the base game and that’s a fat sack of loot on the table. Now there’s still no guarantee they will succeed but businesses don’t generally take blind risks they try to mitigate as much as they can. If they’re doing this it’s because their feelers tell them there is a trove of new simmers to be had, and maybe some old ones to be brought back by something fresh and untried before. Claire is right, this is how companies work, think, strategize, and make decisions. These forums, and Twitter combined are but a speck of the current audience and don’t make a drop in the ocean for potential new players.
They won't have new people buying the pack.Do you really honestly believe. That people would pay 40.00 dollars for a base game .That they never had interested in.Just to get a new pack.I doubt it. - RouenSimsSeasoned Rookie.....

Think was getting more enjoyment out of making my sims and building my lot than I was the game play.
Also just playing the careers and having standard play with my sims.
I never finished Strangerville. I could tell where the story was going and I was feeling that when I finished, it probably be a long time before I played it out again, if ever. I do agree that I can use the town as a TS4 version of Strangetown.
Perhaps my problem was I was also using it to post a story and it was slowing my pace down.
I will try again someday, but I probably won't play my agents. I will use them as NPCs in Strangerville to add a little richness to what is already there. I hope The Journey To Batuu will have more fun game play, The Star Wars theme should help a lot because I am way more interested in it than Strangerville. Just looking at the game trailer, it seems tighter and more controlled. I don't think I will be building and adding characters to it. It will be interesting to find out how it plays.
Thank you so much for taking the time to show your X-Files play and how you set everything up, and shows exactly why I love this game; the ability to build and play out stories with situations. I'm sad that the limitations of the story progression hindered you so that you didn't get to fully implement Mulder and Scully, because they are one heck of a team.
It brought a smile to my face, as I was starting to get a bit frustrated with this whole Star Wars fiasco...exactly what I needed :)"Hearts4u;c-17636656" wrote:
@muzickmage ... Yet, at one time wouldn't you have been considered a newbie? Newbies need to start somewhere after all. So, I hope decisions are made to gain new players so that the Sims franchise continues. Some decisions will work and some will not--that's business.
I'm assuming Star Wars in the game does not appeal to you which is okay. Yet, it appeals to others. So, I'm personally happy when they add something I like. When they don't, I don't buy them.
Yes, at one time I was exactly that.... a newbie. And I would fairly respect the arguments from the veterans if EA decided to cater to me... while leaving them in the lurch.
And no... I don't like the idea of Star Wars being added to TS4. Star Wars as a game is great. I downloaded Star Wars Battlefront 2 during the demo stage but never went back to buy to game during release. I can only afford so many games and well... I have my favorites list at the moment.
The problem however, is not Star Wars. The problem... at it's root... is the neglect from EA to fix the many bugs in the game. The problem is the neglect from EA to add better story progression, genealogy, ramance system, and little things that the community would likely darn near jump off a bridge for... like bunk-beds, better color swatches.
We are missing so much for TS4 that the list is just overwhelming. And not all the ideas on the list are ridiculous, or unfair requests. Not for a 6 year old game in 2020.
We keep waiting, waiting, and waiting some more, while EA caters to a bunch of people who don't even play the game. EA doesn't take very good care of the simmers it already has.... how do you think the new players will be treated?- Horrorgirl6Seasoned HotshotI don't think this game is going to attract a lot star wars players. For the following reasons
A. You're not living in the world, your vacationing there. This would be one thing if your sim was living at the world, but there not .Sure you get build items, and clothes. But it would still lesson the star wars feel.
B. This is not base on real star wars, but on a theme park from Disney land. Making it feel less of adventure for star wars fan , and more like advertisement for Disney.
C. This seems to be base on quests or to meet characters. So why the people might not be interested in the quest, or fight star wars. This is still going to be simalor to that.
