Financial help... Running a business

Ummm so I'm 5 generations in, and my sims are still not doing well money-wise. I have my sim's dad running his own business, and it doesn't seem to bring in that much money. He sells guitars and I have them all marked up to the highest price they can be set to. Last time I played I decided to have him sell that expensive DJ booth that is like 6,000 simoleons. So now he's selling DJ booths, but I'm still worried. I want them to have a nice amount of money by at least the 7th generation. Any advice would be great. o:)

business are known for not being profitable in this game. apparently selling paintings and other easier stuff are more preferable.

Retail can potentially make a lot more money than painting or most other things. It's just that it's only particularly profitable when the items being sold are expensive.

So basically, look for the highest priced things in the catalog and sell those at max markup. The $15,000 violin is a good one.

Start by furniture and start small, when I first start Retail, I only sell kitchen appliances, as the store grow, when you add more and more items to sell use the retail perks, Your retail won't become bigger without retail perks. That is my tip, use the retail perks for expanding your business as once you do that, you can start earning 15k to 25k a day.
  • @TS1299 Thanks for the advice! Gonna try that. I guess need more different types of items.

@Cupid Thanks! gonna look for that violin in the catalog. :)

@princess_kaguya Yeah I was thinking that I might make them try painting or writing as a career.
  • I ve had a lot of success running a food store. I turned aging off for a while and maxed cooking, gourmet cooking and baking skills, then started with a tiny shop selling mainly high level food items, party size lobster, baked Alaska, eclairs, etc usually sell for a large amount with 50 percent mark up. I never use restock, it’s more profitable to cook fresh and restock manually. My sims usually manage to open the shop three times a week and usually make between 4 and 6 thousand simoleans a week. They are not rich but make a decent living.
  • It's good to sell paintings but from the store, not right away from the easel. That way you also earn some mark up on their price. Also don't replace them, just paint new ones - it's cheaper that way, espacially when your painting skill is higher.
