Finding the good ones happen to be sporadic, for sure. I've had decent ones before, but most of them just take the simoleons and bounce! I have had different butlers spawn before as well; that was bothersome. Hasn't been happening to me recently though. And when I notice the butler not doing anything I'll have my sim mop up a puddle herself... then the butler decides to mop up with her. Like thanks dude, a little delayed but fine!
Ironically I still use them when playing in a large household/lot/with wealthy sims and there will be times when they do (shockingly) decide to be of assistance. If all else fails, I suppose they are a nice addition to involve in dramatic love affairs.
