Finding Love Interests

When I create a story in my head, I will usually will create a single girl without any kids and the guy I want her to get with and they live together and I build up their relationship.

I was wondering how everybody else does it.

Do you do the same thing as me, and make them a household from the start?
Do you create your potential love interest and have them move into their own home? If so, how do you get them to eventually meet?
Do you let the game determine who your sim will fall in love with?

I'm interested in filling my world with some eligible, single sims and just letting things happen as they will, but I've never done that before so any suggestions would be great!

I'd like to retain some level of control, so if it is important for storytelling purposes that he does meet a specific lady, I also use the club system and set it up as a group of friends, study club, platoon, group of archaeologists, survivors etc.

My stories are not focused on romance, but if it needs to happen, at least there's some quality out there for him. Pre-mades are a NO, except for Zoe Patel. She's welcome, but she's usually not the one he (I) settle(s) for.
Now, sometimes it happens that one of my guys autonomously seems more interested in another male... Whatever feels natural is OK with me, but it may or may not change the story completely. Depending on the latter, this is where I could decide to use my most impressive godly powers: 'yes' or 'no'.

I have a bit of a plan going forward with some sims, like who I would LIKE for them to partner up with. Some times they take things out of my hands, though, and develop interest for the same gender. I have many male gay couples spread all over my saves. They've more or less happened naturally, with little or no input from me. My sims just gravitated towards them, and that was it. Had to find alternatives for the potential partner I had in mind for them :) I don't play out or create stories really, so whatever the game throws at me, is usually what I go for.

And I had to say, gorgeous sim ladies there! Also, aweesome pic of your sim too! :D

    Edit: can't spell, apparently
  • Great thread, I'm getting a lot of ideas!

I just started playing Sims4 in May or June and none of my sims has hooked up yet, although I have several couples in the "get to know you" stage. Usually I get impatient and give up too quickly but this time I have certain plans in mind so things should go better. My main problem seems to be the computer, if there is a computer in the house the computer owner will NOT stop playing on it, and it's hard to romance someone who is glued to the screen. I lock the computer for everyone but the homeowner/roomie because it is infuriating when someone comes over and ignores the host in order to play on their computer. Once I start relationship building in earnest I may just sell their computers till coupledom is achieved.

When I played Sims 2 eons ago I did whatever felt right for the story I was playing. I would date sims and see who got along best before marrying them off, create couples, break them up, or create the perfect pair and have them meet. Sometimes the perfect pair wouldn't get along, in which case they usually wound up with a random Townie.
  • Most games I have played I have started a single sim and then married a townie / premade I have decided on beforehand. Sometimes I have NOT, but picked one I like at the moment.

This current game i just started is actually the odd one out because I started w ith two roommates that will eventually fall in love, but not until both of them has gone thru Uni. (It's just easier that way, not having to keep a romance going while one is off in student housing).
  • I always create my primary sims, usually if I want to start playing primary sims I start them as Teen or Child then add the parents(married is exception, since they wont be my primary sims), I usually look for random townies or premade to start a romance, or whoever MCCC pulls from my library sims.

Is number 2, 4 & 5 in the gallery - they would be great in one of my saves.

@catmando830 These ladies are not on the gallery. I’m happy to upload them if you don’t mind a couple of cc skin overlays...gotta find out what I used but that’s no biggie.

I love threads like this! *rolls up sleeves* <3

In my current save game, I had no preconceived ideas about their relationships (which is just as well as my Sims have a habit of ignoring my ideas completely and just doing their own thing anyway :D ).

I started with 8 sims at University and I've been going with their wishes and interactions to determine relationships. One actually started an autonomous relationship with an NPC dormmate (very on-again, off-again and all autonomous. It was brilliant!) which carried on well after graduation (and ended, then he dated her sister and then her again but I digress).
I used to try and 'set up' certain sims but I've been having more fun leaving it to chance. I've got several mods nudging the situation along with attractions, chemistry and the like and it's been a lot of fun to set up and watch the sims act on it. <3
