Forming Family Legacies

I've never completed a full length legacy. Every time something happens and I'm unable to continue on. The one that I had that lasted the longest ended at gen 14 out of 10, but it doesn't really count because I had a catastrophic game/save crash and had to start over mid-way with copy sims from the gallery.

Its always something to do with save crashes or accidental (by a family member) deletions. I have high hopes for my current one (It'll be an Alphabet Legacy - 26 generations - with two back up saves at all times for the event that crashes/deletions happen.

Currently playing a legacy, gen 8 are teens/children right now.

I'm on approximately generation 5 at this point but I'm now playing a rotation with almost 200 sims, so time is going a little bit slower now. It's kind of a rotational legacy because they do age out.

If I just played one family, I'd be a lot farther along. I played nearly all of TS2 with one family. I think I was on the really long life span, it took a long time to age up. In terms of actually playing just one household, that was the longest. The family wasn't based on me, it was random but I guess that I liked them. They were very much a functional and happy family. I remember being sad to leave them behind at the time.

I played TS3 at about 3 different intervals, maybe more than that. I think I tended to start up new saves a lot.

I guess I could try to add that TS2 family back into my rotation sometime, like my own pre-mades.

The longest I've played were 8 generations, but that was in TS3. In TS4, I've recently started a legacy, but I just got into the second generation.

200 sims?!? How do you manage that?

The save that I played last night is on the 3rd generation but my main family is on 13.

I was just thinking of starting my first ever legacy but I'm unsure about what to do lol.

These are the rules I found, in a nutshell:
No using cheats/mods etc.
Move a single sim from CAS into an empty 50 x 50 Lot and have $1800 to build the house.
No moving to other Lots during the challenge.
Play on normal lifespan.
Only marry townies.
Pick one of your children as an heir and carry on.

Is that basically it? And scoring points along the way for doing certain stuff like maxing skills out/completing aspirations etc?

I'm doing a not so berry legacy and my gen 4 heir is days away from becoming a YA.
I started my own personal challenge based on the months of the year and I'm currently on my third-gen on that. Challenges are really the only way I ever do legacies honestly, otherwise, I just play a storyline with one family then when that's finished I make a new save.

I started a shipwreck themed legacy on the Windenberg island. My sim ended up with a mermaid and now his widow and 3 kids are all mermaids! It's starting to get a little tough with just one shower to hydrate them, especially as they are restricted by living off the grid and can't swim in the water around the island. It's fun though. I have decided that the generation 3 children will be allowed to finally explore the rest of Windenburg once they become teens - at the moment nobody is allowed to go anywhere other than the main island or the Bluffs.

Also do y'all have any naming themes with your legacies?
