Gallery Access

I wanted to use the gallery to find things to download. Usually I play offline so I can stave off mandatory updates until I'm in the mood, and just log into the gallery when I'm already in the game. Unfortunately, the game insists I can only open the gallery if I close my game down and go online, which means I will have no choice but to download the updates. Has the function to log into the gallery after logging in offline been removed? I'm disappointed because I really see no point in updating the game plus my mods so close to the infants update.
