7. It depends on the item. If you're on a lot, you can click and drag an item from your inventory onto the ground. If you're not on a lot, you can click on it in your inventory and select "Place in World." I prefer to click and drag because I can't choose where the item will go otherwise. This is actually how I move gravestones into "graveyards," I drag the grave into my sims inventory, have them travel to a graveyard, and click/drag the gravestone into the desired position.
