Gameplay style

Me again..... 🤭Hello fellow simmers!

I've played the sims for about 20 years now and don't really have much to show for it. I constantly start new saves as I get bored. I love to build so spend a lot of my time doing that but then when the builds are finished I have to add a family and will end up playing for a while, but then I get bored. I've tried to play with one family for a while, I've played multiple families at once, I've done sim challenges like rags to riches and 100 baby challenge etc but I cant seem to find my style of play and it all becomes a bit chaotic. All the new packs don't help either as I cant wait to try them out when I get them.

Looking for advice on how you guys play? What keeps you engaged in the game or a family etc. How can I add more structure to my game so I have something to show for it too!

Thanks all.... WifeyClarky ❤️

WifeyClarky  I am rather amazed that you think you have nothing to show for it: You have 20 years of entertainment and pleasure to show for it!

I find nothing wrong with your "style" of play. I think a whole lot of simmers do what you do. LOL

But, if you want new ideas to spark creativity, then you might want to try themed worlds. For instance, in one of my games, I turned Oasis Springs into a Batuu inspired world, complete with Batuu critters as occupants. It was a lot of fun to make all the lots into Batuu commercial and residential lots. And I had to play each family in order to upgrade all the things to unbreakable, cheat each family to flag them for never cull, immortal, and static needs, with a cheated and maxed out $999,999,999 for money. (That way, it guarantees your game will not get rid of any sim you have invested your time into to make the themed world.) I also made sure their relationships were 100%, both sims and pets, and so forth. Than enforces a certain amount of play without tying you to a family, but does make each family familiar to you, so you have a sense of community once you are done.

With the new expansion, I am seriously thinking of turning the six lots in the green part of Windenburg into a hobbit village, with the Tudor side as a LOTR inspired human village. Then the island part can have a large castle, a couple thatched roof homes, and the rest of the lots will be forested with fishing holes and so forth, maybe with a nomad family living off the land, possibly with foxes, wildcats, and wolves as pets. Playing each of those households and doing what I did in my Batuu world will take a while and be fun.

You can make Strangerville mostly aliens. Build flying saucers for them, on some lots. The human part of that world is really good for a trailer park/mobile home vibe. Possibly a tiny home or two.  And of course, you can make an actual military barracks there, as well. Of course this assumes you have killed the mother plant. If not, be sure to do that before you leave Strangerville.

The enchanted part of the new expansion pack would be ideal for unicorns. If you don't mind having CC in your game, lots of enchanted creatures have been offered that could be added. For instance, TheKalino has hippogriff, dragons, phoenix and so forth on her website, as well as wings for horses to make a Pegasus . A nomad sim that happens upon these creatures in an enchanted forest would be a great story line for one family in that world. Especially if the neighbors were other types of fae, like fauns and elves on one side and faeries with pretty wings on the other.  The "Waffle_GhostlyGait_Horse_Trait" mod allows for horses to "fly" so your pegasus can be hooves off the ground "flying" instead of running like a unicorn (uses the ghost horse ability to float around).

Setting up some lots in the enchanted part of the world as outdoor living and some lots as new expansion indoor builds for the same types of families will give you a variety of experiences as you play those families to get them set up in their neighborhoods before moving on.

In my themed world game, I made Mt Komorebi into a totally Asian world. I spent a lot of time in CAS creating unique and very Asian looking sims, with traditional clothing/hair styles. It turned out to be a really beautiful world, with Asian inspired commercial lots, as well as unique Asian homes. The only non Asian living there was Santa Claus in a modified "globe home" lot that had a door to get in and out of the globe (transparent roof that went all the way to the ground, covering the lot, other than the door in).

I could go on, but I think you see where I am going with the idea of themed worlds. I have a lot of happy memories of my themed world game. I would highly recommend trying it.  :)

  • I'm starting to play a least 2 diffrent families every week on rotation with the 28th day season in effect.

I'm trying to sift through the households that I have before concentrating on settling down in a new permanent save.

  • Sometimes taking a break from the game could help to get new ideas.

Also, I tend to vary my games, and have multiple save files to keep my interest. Some save files are themed, while others aren't. The themed ones are usually based on a series I like that follow canon families, AUs, and What-ifs, and have all those families living in the same area and interact. Others are Sims I created not based on anything, and placed into different dynamics. Either a single Sim, the typical nuclear family with parents, and kids. As well as families where siblings live together, until I marry them off, or keep them in the family. Also, science babies for me were fun for Sims I wanted to keep single.

Also, my game play can vary, I have the PC version, with a few packs, and my PS4 that has almost everything on it. For my PC version, I have some saves that have a single family, and just plan to basically make them a legacy. Also, with my PC version, I have only about two to four households to switch between, and may combine them later. My PS4 version has tons of families, so I can play with whoever I want to play with at the time. The dynamics are slightly different for each one too. I had to stop the second generation, and plan to combine families, before starting on gen 3, and beyond. Sometimes I move out teens, and focus on them, and reduce the families to make it more interesting as well.

I tend to ignore the premade Sims, and only have my Sims interact with them, unless they get married to the premade Sim. I also go on the Gallery to get Sims to add more variety as well.

  • If you like verity themes, I recommend playing different fantasy lifestates & timelines.  I remember getting bored with my Sims 4 game back in 2020.  So, I decided to make multiple game saves based on different timelines from Prehistoric Age, Ancient Times, Medieval Times, Victorian Age, 20th Century & Futuristic 2525 while playing my Aliens, Mermaids, Vamps, Spellcasters & Humans that had some of the previous abilities.  Now, I've narrowed my game saves down a bit due to a lack of Sci-Fi packs & Prehistoric contents.  Also, I just wasn't focusing on those packs anymore.  I've even gotten bored with my 20th Century.

So now I focus on newly improved Game Saves of:

    1. Dark Ages to Renaissance
    2. Medieval Times to Jacobean Era
    3. Georgian Era to Guilded Age

I also made my recent Testing Game Save as Unliniar just in case I want to have a bit of a Futuristic play or Ancient Times play.

FYI: I only play vanilla on my PC Sims 4 with many Packs & Kits.  Please check out my varity saves of households/builds/rooms in the Gallery under my username SEREFRAS

Wow, that's pretty cool. When I sent my Rock Star on a World Tour, I used many of the worlds I have in my game, avoiding Del Sol Valley and Henford-on-Bagley where he currently lives. But nothing as ornate as actually creating a map.
