Garden patch for regular garden plants?

Question

Does using the garden patch give any kind of bonuses to growing regular garden plants over just planting them in the ground?

I tried searching for an answer for this, but I found thousands of threads about "problems" with the garden patches clogging the search results to the point I just can't wade through it all to find anything that actually answers my question.

Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to educate me.

Easier to move in groups of 4.  That's about it.  They're otherwise the same.  (I think you can probably put them over tiles like you can with the planter boxes, but I haven't tried.)

Alright, thanks to you both.   I figured as much but wanted to be sure.    For outdoor growing I usually just plant directly on the ground.   It makes for the ability to plant things tighter together (using alt to move them once planted) than the patches do, which is why I asked if there is any other bonus.
