Generic Lot bug?

Something super annoying just happened in my game, and I can't pinpoint how it could have happened.

I haven't actually played a household in quite a while, although I've popped in here and there to check out the gallery. I did recently spend quite a bit of time adding likes and dislikes through household management once that update dropped. But I opened up a family tonight, and when I went to make a few edits for the house, I noticed that I wasn't able to buy anything even though the family had a couple of thousand simoleans in the household budget. However, then I noticed that I had... dual tabs?... at the bottom of the screen. One was called household funds, the other "business" funds. Hmmm, I thought. That's very strange. This family does not own, and has never owned, a business.

Then it hit me: I saw that the lot type was generic.

No, the lot was not generic before. It's never been generic; it has always been residential. I created that family and then instantly purchased that same residential lot. They've only ever lived there. I've never even so much as temporarily moved them out and then back in.

So I tried to change the lot type back to residential, but it was greyed out and when I hovered over the lot type, it said that the lot type could not be changed while the lot was owned. Great. So now I've got the giant hassle of moving them out and back in. If I even can? If it's a generic lot, will I even be able to sell the house? I'm also quite concerned that in the process of doing so, I will lose possessions (and this is a house that I spent a LOT of time getting just right.)

In any case, I haven't tried to fix it, because I immediately freaked out that this could have happened to other, or God forbid all, of my households, so I've been checking every world. So far I've only found one other household with this issue, fingers crossed.

I just don't see... normally I would think maybe I just accidentally hit something and changed it myself. But if it's not possible to change a lot type when it's owned, and that lot has ALWAYS been owned... well, I couldn't have accidentally hit a button and changed it if changing it is not even physically an option.

So, tl; dr: has anyone else had a problem with lot types being mysteriously changed? Or is there some incredibly obvious explanation that I have missed somehow?

  • I haven’t had this happen to me, but I don’t think I have made a commercial lot residential ( though I have made residential lots commercial ). Before you evict the household, you may want to go into build mode and see if you can upload the lot into the gallery just in case.

I don’t use mods or CC
  • I've never had this occur in my game that I can recall. But it strikes me that you could go into build mode, save the lot itself. Exit the lot to get into map mode. Evict your family. Then place the now saved version from your My Library. Via map mode go into build mode, change the lot designation and then move your family back in. That way, I hope, your Sims' things, furniture, etc. should be intact. I save lots I've built and furnished through build mode all of the time. Then I place them when I'm ready for them. Good luck and what a strange thing to have happen in your game. I know I've managed to lose a window in between gaming sessions. :open_mouth: Didn't realize it until after I snapped a screenshot of the house.
  • Haven't had this problem but it's easy to fix. You can just evict them. Then go into the lot and change the type to residential and then move them back in. Or move them out with their possessions and change the type and move them back in. OR, you can evict them, Upload the house to your library, clear the lot, change the lot top to residential, then download the house again. Then move them back in using "freerealestate on" if you are having issues changing the type.
  • Oh no. What a disaster. Now it's happening with every household that I open. This last one changed to a national park when I opened it (and it's another one that's always been a residential lot).

For those who are saying it's a simple fix, just evict them: that's what I would normally do if I wanted to move a family out and leave the lot unchanged. But I cannot do it with these lots. Where you normally click the "..." at the bottom of the screen, and get the "Manage Household," "Evict," and "Move Out" options, now the only option is "Sell Business."

    :s

Fortunately I have one guy who I wanted to move out anyway; I've never liked his current lot or decor, so I'm going to try "Sell Business" and see what happens. But it's not looking like a great option for the families I actually want to have stay in their homes.
  • I just had something like this happen. A lot of my lots were either turned residential when they were previously commercial and some of my residential homes have been turned into community lots. I couldn't move my sims out the traditional way so I went to manage worlds and put them in out of world category and that did the trick. Then I was able to go into some of the lots and change their lot type.

I only noticed this happened when I was creating a club and none of my parks showed up. Then I went into the closest park and it was set to residential...then all my parks. I don't know what caused it and I can tell you that the homes were playing like normal, but I couldn't go into build mode if they were retail or a restaurant.

It seems I do remember this happening to me several months ago. I think it was with a park or some other type of venue. Like not too long after a patch. I just re-adjusted it back to what it was and it was fine again.
