I play my friend's copy and haven't spent any money on 4. And by "play," I build a huge house, move in a cute family, and that was my 2 hour monthly quota - I feel like my job is done at that point tbh
I play:
1 for the nostalgia and just pure love. So cute, so chaotic.
2 because it's the closest to perfect for my playstyle. If I had no needs or commitments IRL, I could play indefinitely.
3 because it sates my need for creativity and adventure.
To me, 4 didn't and still doesn't feel like a ~successful successor~ lol, and I know many people feel the same. I also know quite a few who believe Sims 4 fits their playstyle perfectly! And good for them, keep having fun!
But just as you are entitled to gush about how satisfied you are with Sims 4 as a product, others are entitled to wish it could be different. And no marketing, influencer, whatever kind of role can take away that entitlement from you or anyone else.
Pleasant Sims was well known for making videos talking about her distaste for Sims 4, and her sentiments were genuine. She chose to stop making those kinds of videos for her own benefit, not because it suddenly didn't get enough views. If anything, YouTubers who make negative content about Sims 4, whether it's sprinkled in like Plumbella or constant like Pleasant Sims, seem very genuine in their opinion.
