Get Famous Gets a Bit Ridiculous at Times
I've brought up family relationships before in the "general comments" -- how wrong it is, for instance, that grandparents have to "introduce themselves" to grandchildren before they can interact, or my annoyance that cousins don't really seem to know each other. The problems, I see now, are even worse with "Get Famous".
I just got the EP, and while I love it and the whole concept of "celebrity", I think it goes to ridiculous extremes where family is concerned. Here's what's happening in my game right now.
I have a "Proper Celebrity" -- Benjamin Caldwell. He's well-known as a comedian, and his son, Evan, aspires to follow in his footsteps. Not long ago, Evan married Sasha, his high school sweetheart. The young couple bought a home of their own and are working to make their lives successful. (Although they both come from affluent families, they are determined to make it on their own without asking for help.)
Evan was rehearsing comedy routines when he noticed his father walking by. He was hoping his father would listen to his new routines, so he quickly went out to greet him. Benjamin came inside, helped himself to dinner and fell asleep in the tub. OK, I can live with that. Poor guy needed a place to relax and unwind, right?
Evan left for work a short time later, and Sasha tried to be friendly with her father-in-law. No way. She could "attempt introduction" or choose another fame-related option such as asking for an autograph or taking a photograph. No way could this young woman simply sit down and talk to her father-in-law. I've tried "attempt introduction" twice, and all she does is get a bit hysterical at the idea of being in the presence of this star.
Oops... forgot to pause the game while writing this. Benjamin has now left, he doesn't show up in Sasha's relationship panel, so I guess she still doesn't know her husband's father. To me, that's going a bit overboard with celebrity and fame.
Fame is fine, but family should still be family.
