Well, I have both EPs here, and my own opinion: I have to give the nod to Get Together. That said, it depends upon what sort of play you prefer. GTW is not terrible, but it's not what I'd wanted it to be. I prefer more 'sandbox' style play and while I had been looking forward to the active careers, the task-list implementation that they received is just not really to my liking. If you're okay with the task-list style of going down checklists of very specific goals, then you may enjoy it more than I have. (I've still had some fun with the Scientist and the neat inventions. Haven't really done much with the Detective or Doctor as they seem to have less to really bring into the rest of the game.)
To me, GT adds a lot more that I like -- the club system is more more versatile and open-ended -- it allows you to create the gameplay that you want, for the most part. Groups are a big help, IMO, as I always have issues with social outings and the game's much-touted 'multitasking.' The multitasking has been a greater curse than blessing for me, as it means numerous other Sims always impose themselves upon any outing I attempt and I can't keep a simple 2 or 3 Sim group on track. Groups at least let me define those 2 or 3 Sims as a unit and pull them away or move them around more reliably. (Though it still doesn't stop some of the multitasking craziness.)
All in all, if you're more into free-form sandbox style play, I think GT is the better choice. If you like specific goals and the new angle of more MMO-like, quest-like progression style gameplay, then GTW may be the way to go. Both do offer things that are good for either camp -- I'm still glad to have aliens and photography from GTW, and GT adds some pretty neat dance activities, DJ stuff and a beautiful new neighborhood. To me, the two aspects of these EPs that I've talked about are essentially their main features though, so those are the factors I use to set them apart and compare.
