I've been playing TS4 for almost 2 years now and have never used it....what is it like? I always go the old fashioned way of getting my sims to have a kid. I always say I'm going to use it then change my mind

I use it. You see a list of kids pop up and choose one and then your sim goes to the adoption agency (rabbit hole) and comes back with the kid

I used it once, when I first started playing. I got a girl named Olive Fresh. But other than that, I just make my own orphans. That way, I can ensure they have good genetics, and they won't appear in the family tree in the same way a biological child would.

I dislike the adoption in game because as far as the game is concerned it is like these children you do adopt are your natural born children rather than other couples children they can't look out for any more. i tried to use the adoption feature to get three girls into a family for the three natural born sons of this one parent, but because they are considered like natural born children, it is considered incest if they become teenages and choose to fall in love (and with mccc i already tried it before).Thr adoption system in game needs a bit of work for sure. These kids need their own parents and when they are adopted, in the relationship panel the bar indicating friendship is empty but the game remembers the childrens parents and so by law until they reach a certain age, they are considered like children and siblings, but only as far as law says, beyond that there is no connection.i found another way around the issue. if the MCCC feature puts single children out on their own household, i can pick those strays up and put them in my household, at least there they'd be considered like family like how it is meant to be and those children would be perfect when they age up to get them married to each other without risk of incest involved.

I like the adoption feature and use it regularly. I also think that they implememted it correctly with adding adopted children to the family tree.@Hoverael Nothing against your playstyle, but I would think it very odd if you were able to adopt children as future spouses for your offspring. As IRL children who grow up together should be considered siblings. I guess I would not have an issue, if they made it optional to add the adopted child to the family tree, but I would definitely never adopt that way because otherwise there would be romantic options later on that I would not want to show up in my game.

For those that use mods... Little ms sam foster care mod you take in foster kids and then help find them adoptive parents by setting up a home visit etc. (the potential parents come to your home and you have your sim ask them questions etc and then decide if you want this sim to adopt the foster child) You can also adopt the child yourself after fostering him/her as well. They don't show up as a household member unless you adopt even though they live in your home (kinda like butlers do. If they run away you can call social services to return them)

Yes, I like to use adoption sometimes if it suits my sim's story, although I often edit the adopted sim in CAS so he/she looks how I imagine. My main sim actually adopted his daughter and she's such a little cutie.

Both families I am playing right now have adopted kids.

The first has 6 kids... 4 bio girls and two adopted boys. Actually the dad went out and secretly adopted the second infant boy while his wife was at the hospital giving birth to their youngest lol ? and they already had another bio girl who was still a baby at the time so the 3 youngest are very close in age. They are tots now though. (they have two kids and a teen as well)

The other household was done without feature. I was playing a sim from toddler up having her accomplish everything. Her mum died when she was still a child so I created an adoptive mother for her in cas lol

Yes, once. After my homeless elder, Lorna Leone, finished that challenge, she used her accumulated simoleons to build a retirement home. She'd always wanted children, but never had any of her own and also needed an heir to take over when she was gone. She adopted a little girl. Her name is Jaz. She was well loved by her Mother and doted on by all the residents who adored her.

It ended up being a bittersweet story. Lorna died in the kitchen next to Jaz who had just blown out the candles on her birthday cake to become a teen.

There's much more to her story, but that's not what this thread is about so I'll leave it there. Jaz is the only adoption I've had in my game so I've never had any of my Sims adopt a baby. Perhaps one day... *shrugs*
