Has anyone had a successful New Skill Day?

The surprise holiday New Skill Day popped up, and it said that sims learn skills faster and should learn a new skill or develop an old one. Both my sims gained a skill point in an existing skill, one in gardening and one in logic, but at the end I got a notification that New Skill Days was awful. I tried searching for mentions of new skill day on here to see if it worked or not for others, and saw one other person for whom it also failed even though they also tried introducing a sim to a new skill instead of just improving an old one, and no mention of it actually having been successful for anyone.

So, has anyone gotten it to work, and if so, how? Is one skill point not enough?

  • Still didn't seem to work for me - I gained a new skill (Logic) AND levelled up an existing (Painting), however Painting was about level 7 already, so perhaps it fell victim to the "Lower Than Skill Level Five" thing.

Has anyone ascertained whether or not it's to level 2 min, not just starting?
  • I'd like to add that when my sim raised a high-level skill one level higher, the tradition got checked off, but the next morning the pop-up said the holiday failed for that sim.

Had that happen with Brawl Day, too--sim only participated in one fight; that was enough to check off the tradition, but not enough for the holiday to have been a success.

Regarding New Skills Day, that's backwards, because raising one high level skill one more level takes more effort than doing that with a low-level skill. :/

But at least we know: learn new skills, and brawl frequently.

I think the key might be to go up a level at a lower level of a skill. My Sims who went from 3 to 4 got credit; the one who went from 8 to 9 didn't (at least I don't think so).
  • I can usually find a skill that my Sim hasn't tried yet -- I've got it coming up in my current save so I'll likely have several skills for my Sims to learn. And it'll definitely help my toddler learn his skills faster so I have more time to actually enjoy his toddlerhood.
  • I don't think I've had it once in my game

edit: but in a way, every day is New Skill Day in my Sims game. Yes, I push them hard and yes, I am a plum player
  • Since getting the Seasons pack I have experianced Skills Day on the 1st day of Fall.
I completed the challenge by having my Sims perform a skill that was under lvl5 and they gained lvls quickly and completed in about 4 or 5 game hours. One SIM I used just powered 1 skill and another I used diffrent skills and it worked but took longer. Once the skill reaches lvl5 it stops counting towards the challenge. All skills seemed to lvl faster.
To avoid the reported glitch I didnt save until after the event was over and had the Sim perform the same skill again after the event ended to lvl just slightly more and register the new higher lvl then saved. Havent exited the game but the skills in my save stuck so I hope this helps others. :)

I had one new skill day in one of my other saves. Maxed piano in a day.
None of my new saves have that holiday! I really needed it this morning too! I had 2 actors who needed to be at level 5 fitness in less than a day, they were at level 2. I was like, when is that holiday? Checked the calendar and nada. Can I make that holiday, nope! I went back to my really old save and they still had it. Is it random every year or what?
Man, we are the watchers and we should be able to set that up for our Sims once a year!
It made me feel like such a player, not a watcher.
