It would be interesting to know how the party invites work. In my current legacy save, my Sim gets invited to birthday parties all the time. My child Sim gets invited to hangout over someone's house & Sims call to come over instead of showing up all the time. I love this social aspect. But in my current save, I honestly just ignore all these invites as this is my Legacy save that I just started, and my family is broke & doesn't have time for parties. Gotta make that money Lol.
But in another save my Sims don't get invited at all. It would be nice to have that in this game. Honestly, I think it's completely random. The frequency that it should happen...who knows. Maybe you could put it in the 'Bugs' section of the forum if it's not happening in your game at all.
