Have You Ever Wondered If Two Sims Were Just Meant To Be?

As some of you might know, I've had to restart the save for my Cantrell Family. We just won't talk about the Operator Malfunction, that went on when I tried to back-up my gave believing the patch on the 21st was the patch. Originally Kayleigh was an NPC, or better yet, a Walk-by Sim. She stepped into a venue where Erik was at the time, and it was all but fireworks between them up front. After a short time of playing them together, I saved her to my library, for safe-keeping. L learned way back in 2014, that the walk-by's aren't regenerated with each save. Once they're dead, that's it.

Well, I have had to restart more times than I can possibly remember. But, this time Kayleigh showed up at one of Erik's live performances. Brianna was also in the audience so I had her introduce herself to Kayleigh and the two chatted for a bit. At one point Brianna asked what Kayleigh felt about Erik. Kayleigh responded she hadn't had the pleasure of meeting him. So, I had Brianna 'talk him up'. I almost chose "Hook up with" But didn't. After they concert the Cantrell family went home. It's a hot summer afternoon. Brianna called Kayleigh and asked her to hang out. It took some time for her to arrive. (She walked.) Erik was just on his way to a photoshoot, so I stopped him. I decided he should give her a flirty introduction. Kayleigh walked right passed Erik, who was standing on the porch, to find Brianna in the laundry room. Erik followed Kayleigh inside so he could introduce himself to her.

It may only be the power of the flirty introduction, but I recall another type where they throw petals at them and that grows the relationship instantly. No such interaction. They have an empty friendship bar, but their romance bar is full!

Since their very first encounter, these two have just had a rare connection. It's actually very sweet, which is why I love them so much.

So, please share about your couples who have such a deep, instant connection.

  • UPDATE: Apparently, Erik only had to say a few words to Kayleigh. Their friendship bar is all the way full, too. Wow. Now, I'm really excited to get this game save to where it needs to be. Who knew? Plus, Erik is level ten on the Charm Factor, that could also make them friends so quickly. But, still, it's like a Faerie Tale of sorts. Don't burst my bubble! L:OL
  • I loved the attraction system in Sims 2 because that pretty much took care of it.
(Although I might have cheated and given the ones I wanted together the traits that the other would find attractive)

But yes, it's nice when sims you like like each other with little to no help. Hoping this new system in 4 works the same
  • That's a matter of head vs. heart. My head knows that once it had made up its mind about something, it will more readily notice and accept evidence FOR that opinion than AGAINST it (or even neutral evidence). But the heart insists otherwise.

An example would be my main couple. I'm very attached to my cast of sims and re-use them in side saves (flashbacks and alternate universes, not unlike your own gameplay). For those side saves I use fresh library copies of Daniel and Gavin, each saved as a single sim household, but sometimes I could swear they recognize each other. Like the time I made them fight for a story, but the moment I had shot the scene, they hugged each other as if to reassure the other "it's just a story Enki is writing, just you wait, everything will be alright."

Heart: "It's as if there is a DanielxGavin shaped cloud in the aether that exists outside of the game and infuses the sims with the knowledge they need to have!"
Head: "It's called projection, Enki. And having an overactive imagination in a game that is predisposed towards positive interactions. Case in point: May I remind you of how it always ends if you try to set up gang wars with the club system?"

Oh, I definitely lined up the traits.
  • I've had three couples that I wondered if they were and that I was rooting for them to be. All three have proven beyond any doubt that they were destined to be together forever. I know you know who they are.?
  • I'm probably an unusual simmer in that I don't try to direct the relationship lives of sims, I just "encourage" the romances they autonomously decide on between themselves. Put another way, only once they've started expressing an interest in each other will I give nudges to help things along. (I also don't meddle with their attraction settings, preferring to let them work that out on their own.)

When they're in neighborhoods with the Free Love N.A.P. active, I tend to take that much less seriously because they're merely being hyper-flirtatious neo-hippies in that sort of situation.

I do wish there was a setting which allowed sims to be more entirely autonomous with romantic interactions, however. I mean in the sense that it wouldn't require a nudge from to allow them to develop actual romantic relationships.

Some really do seem to belong together though, and it's more fun when I'm surprised by that.

One of my most recent couples dated briefly during high school, and met again as adults, with no prompting from me at all. She went on to become a Secret Agent, he just sort of settled into unemployed life. I suppose a lingering crush must have brought them together, and she decided having a husband was a necessary part of her cover identity. Then she (re)discovered what a sweetheart he is, and actually fell in love with him. He's dumb as a post, believing she really does work a boring salaried position, but he's turned out to be an excellent stay-at-home dad. (Their now-teenaged son, on the other hand, has begun to suspect.. though he has not yet found her secret workroom downstairs behind the false bookcase.)
