Darn, darn, darn. I was playing along, all was well, my sim was given that machine to scan the ground for the things. He reached the machine in the basement of the lab and was able to get the thing he had to get the scientist to make, and I couldn't figure out how to make the scientist to do what he needed her to do and I accidentally put the thing (obviously, I can't remember the names of all these things, sorry) from his inventory to her inventory. Now it's gone. I can't find her on the town management, I guess the townies are not part of the system. Darn, darn, darn!Is there anyway I can get control of her and put his object back in his inventory?

You can find a list of your townie sims by going to the neighborhood lot view, click the household management icon on the top right, then go to the "Other households" tab and then you will see all of the townies. If you can't seem to locate the sim you are looking for, then try to have your sim become friends with the personnel who gave it to you (ex if a scientist gave it to you, find another scientist to make friends with) to see if maybe you can score another one. If worse comes to worse, I think it might be in hidden objects... open cheat window, type testingcheats on then type bb.showhiddenobjects then go into buy/build mode, type debug into the search bar. When done, type testingcheats offUPDATE: I tried the showhiddenobject cheat and it seems that all of the items are buyable, including the spore scanner. I narrowed the search to the Strangerville pack only to find it more quickly (there are A LOT of items in buydebug) This would be the fastest method.

I wonder how did you manage to put something from your sim's inventory to the inventory of a sim you're not controlling.

Up date! I've found all the things I lost and have progressed to meeting up with "you know who" and now we are looking for "you know what" lol, I don't want to ruin the plot for anyone. I just wanted to let you know I am now past where I lost my Sim's "thing" that got stuck in the other sim's inventory. I'm having a lot of fun with this pack.In some ways, it reminds me of ts3 adventure ep, the one where you had to search the tombs, and find the clues. This is a lot like that one, not in tombs and jungles, but in the way you have to figure things out to win the day. I like this.

Or you could go back to an earlier save. The load screen has two buttons at the bottom right corner, the left one lists earlier saves.

I'm trying to figure out how you dragged something to the other sim's inventory. You can't do that unless the other sim is in your household. The only way I know (without mods,) is to use the give gift interaction. I'm thinking the scanner got placed on the ground somewhere. Anyway, glad you got it sorted. It's a good pack.

I grabbed my sim's data from his inventory and put it over the other sim. I have no mods that would force that, that I know of. But this has worked liked this since ts3. try it. put something you don't care about in your sim's personal inventory, go to a community lot and pick a sim, that isn't one of your sims or one you can play. go in your sim's inventory, pick up the object you placed there, drag it to the townie sim. I bet it goes into the other sims inventory and gone for good to you. Let me know how you make out.

Nope, it didn't work. That's not a feature in the Sims 4, and it wasn't in The Sims 3, either. The object turns red to let you know it can't be given to the other sim. If the item disappears from your sim's inventory, it's because you accidentally placed it on a surface (floor, counter, etc.)

We can only drag inventory items to other sims in the same household. In TS3, you'd need a mod like Awesomemod, for example, to do this.

Why don't you try it again in your own game, this time paying close attention to what actually happens to the item.

Well, my Sim died. He got eaten by the you know what. I haven't had the heart to go back and try again. I did go back to an earlier save, but I can't get myself to try again. I was so surprised by that event. :-(
