Help me get rid of origin, please!

I cant play the game because origin is constantly slowing it, freezing it or crashing it. Think I might be able to find ... some software that allows me to play without this damned thing? Please???

I am seriously thinking of uninstalling the 40 dlcs including the game I PURCHASED to go replace it with a pirate version. Shame I cant refund this, real shame!

As others have said, open your task manager and "end task" on Origin. It helps a ton AND you can do it while the game is running without any problems.

Origin is a CPU hog while the game is running, so it bogs everything down AND it runs in the background even after you think you've closed it, so killing it through the task manager (and playing in offline mode) is definitely the way to go.

I'm not sure about it being a CPU hog. I'd say there is definitely something else going on with OP's computer. Possibly lower specs. Because my Origin 0% of my CPU, and only 68.9MB of my RAM, while playing sims. It's very low usage, all around.

Even the game isn't crazy demanding, my Chrome uses nearly as much RAM as my game, though nowhere near the CPU the game uses which is only 20% itself.

I'm glad closing origin is a possiblity for the OP, but to make a general statement of Origin being a CPU hog is pretty false. It'll depend on the hardware and in that case... most anything could be a CPU hog (though I will say at 95% CPU usage the OP is showing, I'd actually start digging in and troubleshooting what was going on, because I suspect that is way more than just low end specs at play. EA and the Sims would not be able to sell games at all if their platform alone used 95% of everyone's CPU. So definitely a red flag that something more is going on.)
  • I keep CoreTemp visible in the status bar, and it normally indicates below 50% CPU utilization while the game is running.

But sometimes it stays at or close to 100%, and when that's the case, Task Manager shows that Origin is using nearly all of that. It's intermittent and infrequent, and after ending task on Origin, it goes back to normal. The problem is with Origin, or with something that doesn't cause a problem when Origin isn't running.

@OP, you might try clearing Origin's cache: https://crinrict.com/blog/2014/09/delete-origin-cache-files.html. Also, restart right before playing. And, update or disable virus protection to see if it's involved.
  • Hey!

I wanna give you guys a really surprising update.
For longer than an year I had a very frustrating experience with the game. I sunk a lot of money on its dlcs and being plagued with constant freezes for so long made me feel awful... even exploited.

But it seems this has changed now! :D

If you’re just playing TS4 you could try downloading the new EA Desktop app.

something miraculous happened here... somewhat even scary... the freezes...

THEY ARE GONE! :D They are finally gone!!!

So my advice for everyone... get rid of origin and use that new EA Desktop app. It rly did for me.

Imagine... a crash every 10 or 20 minutes to no crash at all!!!

Get rid of origin asap, its a real virus!
