HELP! my sims are TOO RICH!

you can use the "money (insert amount here)" cheat to have the funds be the exact number you put in

If you have children and when they are getting married and moving out of the house share your money with them. For example I gave my daugter 200k simoleons and got her a nice house.

I like to buy business lots and use them as second homes.

Side note, that's a great idea! Never thought of using business lots that way before. Totally doing that with my rich Sims.

As for ways to spend money, it really comes down to cheating. Sometimes I want my Sims to live as poor, lost all their money families, but I don't want to buy lots of high quality items, etc. So, cheating it is.

If you have a pack that adds one, sure. (I'm talking about retail stores, restaurants, and vet clinics)

In Sims 4 Cats & Dogs you can buy a vet clinic.
I don't have any problems with my sims being to rich. In fact their household funds amount drops when ever bill time comes around. Not to mention that the butler still needs to be payed. So that take the amount of simoleons that my sims have in their household funds down even further.

My achieving sims use to get like this after awhile. If you are gardening for income stop or splice down all the plants just so what you harvest can go in the fridge. Don't harvest them until you need them. Snack on the fruit or veggies (if it's a good enough quality) and see what moodlets pop up.. or cook with it. If you have packs that you can make things like herbal remedies.. use them in your game play instead of selling them. Same goes for potions if you have a scientist. If you paint don't sell them, collect them. I'm choosy about what painting I keep around... but keeping a bunch of masterpieces will drive the bills up.
Buy drinks for the crowds at the bar. Pretend you have money to throw around. Get a maid gardener and the butler.
If you deck your house out with the pricey stuff the bills will soon put a dent in it.
I usually have to send my sims back to work (usually crafting) after a bit or decide what to start selling.

I pretend that I'm sharing, but in reality I just cheat to decrease my own households money and increase the daugther's households money when she is moved out.
The cheat is "money and the amount of money you want to have"

You could move the family to a cheap lot then use the money cheat to take away all their Simoleons (make sure to use the Sell Furniture option when moving). Maybe the family lawyer cheated them out of all their money and gambled it all away in Lucky Palms, or they made bad investments in the dot-bomb bust and went bankrupt. :o
