How do I get a roof on a 3 story house on sims 4?

  • I'm pretty sure in the Sims 4 you can build four floors high, so putting a roof on should be simple. There isn't an auto-roof option like the sims 3 that I'm aware of.

After you have built your 3rd floor walls hit the "Go Up to Next Floor/ Page Up" button at the top right of your screen (looks like little arrows) Until the white grid rests above your 3rd floor. Then, on the building panel click on the roof of the house pictured in your bottom left. You want to click between the chimney and square pattern of roof tiles. It will highlight a dark blue. Then select which shape of roof you'd like from the options that pop up to the right of that by left clicking your selection. Move your mouse over the top of your third floor. You should see an outline of the roof follow your mouse. Drop the roof by left clicking again. Your roof should appear opaque where you dropped it. Several arrows will pop up on the new roof. You can drag these around to fit the shape and size of your house.

You can also place more than one roof type down and overlap several different roofs on top of each other to get different shapes, but that starts getting complicated when they all start intersecting. Since this sounds like your first roof, I'd recommend just dropping one roof down and playing with the arrow options available until you get used to the controls. However, you will likely have to intersect multiple roofs to fit unique shapes. For example; you would need to place at least two roofs down to cover an L-shaped house.

    Good luck!

    Thanks! I got it!
  • Surely it is the same as putting a roof on a 1 story or 2 story house?

Or am I missing something here?
  • Basically, it is @plopppo2 , but it sounds as if the OP didn't realize how to get to the top to see what they were doing. The new build mode can be overwhelming, at first. I know I had my trials and errors with it — and I'm just awful at roofing. I know because when I shared images of my "Legacy Challenge" house, another player kindly offered to 'fix' the roof. What came back to me was terrific! Now, if I can only reverse engineer it … ;)
