"Hi, Sim. Nice to meet you. You're my good friend!"

I just experienced an interaction that made my daughter and me laugh, with amusement and surprise.

We have a Sim in our world who's just a nice guy. He's not exceptional in any way. He is a fun Sim to have in the background of our saves, often becoming a friend of our "main character." Today Z and I decided to let him take a star turn.

He headed out to the Spice Festival, and after he'd bought a drink, he spotted a Sim we hadn't seen in one of our games before. I remember Z and me creating her, because Z gave her very short, dark hair.

Our Sim has 4 Charisma, so he's far from "overpowered" in that skill. He has a Great Reputation, but again, he's not maxed out in that trait, either. He greeted the dark-haired Sim with a Cheerful Introduction. He's used that greeting before...but not with this effect!

As soon as they exchanged "Sul suls," their green relationship bar blew up. They were immediately Good Friends. They also have the Closer From Happy Memories sentiment for each other. Their connection is completely platonic so far. We turned off autonomy for played Sims, but she would have full autonomy. She hasn't tried a Romantic interaction, and he hasn't rolled any as possible choices, either.

What could be happening here? Was this the result of hitting the right random number, or do their traits have anything to do with it? She is Good, and he is Cheerful, but they don't share a common trait.

What do you think? Have you seen this kind of instant connection?

Oooh, I love when this happens! I think there are multiple factors that come into play when seeing instant connections like this. As you’ve mentioned already, traits, reputations, and introduction types can all lead to higher relationships. I think a great reputation helps quite a bit, or at least it does in my game. That, and the good manners trait that unlocks polite introductions.

Well, whatever it was, it’s still cool to see this happen in the game! :)
  • While I haven't noted this as scientifically as you, @MoonlightGraham, I have noticed for some time that using Cheerful Introductions dramatically and instantly boosts my sims' friendship level pretty high with any random stranger they use it on, so if I don't want that rando to linger in the relationship panel for too long, I make sure to use Friendly Introduction, which is much tamer.

I don't know that it has anything to do with traits or, if it does, how they influence/interact.

This is how Morgyn Ember and Guidry became best buds in my game. I introduced them, just to get an acquaintance started, but they went straight to friends. I just ran with it, and a bit of a bromance developed. They were always autonomously calling and hanging out. It’s settled down now, but it’s been fun to play. For the record, Guidry’s traits are default: foodie, romantic, art lover, quick learner. Morgyn is a bit more complicated with outgoing, bookworm, unflirty and quick learner plus a stack of reward traits. Both had high charisma, though.
  • I've played my Sims Erik Cantrell and Kayleigh Golden in many iterations (having had to restart more than a few times). I just thought the game
'memory' of their relationship was at play. They met and it was like love at first sight! Magic. Don't fight it, just enjoy. LOL
  • Thanks for your thoughtful responses! :)

@jpajari I was wondering if this connection was the result of a perfect storm of all those factors. If it was, that's actually very cool.

@RoseQuartz Thanks for the insights about the superpower of the Cheerful Introduction. It's a shame that my Sim didn't have that ability when he met some of the really cool Sims he encountered early on. His friendship with his new buddy Miriam is stronger than any other connection he has. You only have one chance to make a first impression, after all.
My daughter was interested in experimenting further. "Try Cheerful Introduction on those Sims over there," she suggested. Five more Cheerful Intros yielded no more initial Friendship than the usual approaches. Hmmmm...

@cyncie I like the Morgan/Guidry bromance. I like to see close friendships, both in The Sims and in real life. It's fun to see them play out in the game. Maybe Charisma is the key, but my Sim Pat's Charisma is only 4, and because Miriam is unplayed, I have no idea what hers might be.

@GalacticGal Erik and Kayleigh are an epic romance; so far, Pat and Miriam are buddies without any romantic inclinations. Part of me wants to make sure Pat never flirts with her, while I wait to see if Miriam initiates romance.
Did you create Kayleigh as Erik's "intended," or did that happen on its own?
