Everything that can't be put in sim's inventory will be left behind.
High school diploma can also be bought from build mode under decorations category.
I see. I was hoping to keep it for him, since he is the first teen I played actively in school. Buying a diploma just wouldn't make it HIS, yeah? I know I'm being weird about it, but if I have no choice guess I'll have to buy it XD Thanks!
The prom event awards can be bought from the store as well. Currently at a gym, and they are unlocked there.
I have a suspicion that none of the diplomas belong to any sim. Graduating just gives one for free.
Well, community lots and unowned lots have every unlockable object unlocked. While I do suspect that unlocks stay with the household, try it out yourself and see if you can buy it.
