The game was dreadfully terrible in the beginning. No pools, no toddlers, etc. However, it slowly started getting better once we got pools and DLC (especially 'Get To Work'). Then it kinda started going back downhill... especially after the first announcement of 'Get Together' (I will never forget that cringe worthy clap and the "let's turn this conference into a party", followed by awkward dancing). However, once we got more information about the pack (which was lacking a lot when it was first announced), it became my favorite expansion pack (until 'Seasons').
In 2017, we got a wonderful surprise... TODDLERS! That was probably the most exciting Sims 4 announcement (at least for me)... that is, until 'Seasons' was announced almost one year later.
I'm going to prevent myself from going through an entire timeline of The Sims 4... lol Ultimately, the game has gotten A LOT better since it was released back in September, 2014. There are certainly still many things I wish to see... and there are still some issues. However, I think it's worth noting that it started off as my least favorite Sims game... and then slowly became my second favorite (Sims 3 is still #1 for me). I'm someone who once heavily criticized the game (sometimes even going to the point of saying I hate it). But that's no longer the case... even though there are still quite a few issues that can often make me very frustrated from time to time... lol
I would highly recommend getting the game... however, you will need at least an expansion pack, game pack, and stuff pack to fully enjoy it. Despite its progress over the years, the base game itself still isn't enough to fully enjoy without getting bored easily. At least in my opinion.
