I think the idea is good, but only if it makes sense to the Sim’s personality, traits, and there is a gameplay reward for doing so or punishment for not doing it. Like if you have Sims like Matilda’s parents— it makes sense for them to eat around the TV.
But family oriented sims would be insistent on family time and family dinners.
I also think it would be really cool for geeky sims to have a sci-fi channel or a distinctive show that they tune into religiously (if obviously doesn’t have to be just a sci-fi show, I know plenty of people who I classify as geeks who can tell you the intricacies of Downtown Abbey or The Crown, rather than Star Trek: Voyager.)
