- Were you running out of time? Your sims also need to have a climbing skill of 6 to even attempt the last of the three steep walls. Townies that you bring along will always succeed, regarldless of their skill.
I always bring a portable bush (cc), non-perishable food and my own tents, also stereos (playing phone games will do for fun, though), a bar and maybe a keg to celebrate. But the game gives you everything you need, so it's not really required to go in fully equipped. You'll find wild plants, potty bushes, a tent and a fire in the world (although that campfire failed to spawn for me on one occasion, due to bad weather I assume).
It can be helpful to make your sims focused. Stretching before the climb will accomplish that, but also every other method you can think of (like emotion berries from JA or Wellness skill 2 sims, they can do this to their group members with a quick friendly interaction "Talk about cognitive focusing methods" or similar).
It's important to finish the first part with Gold Status, otherwise the game will half your energy for the next portion. To get gold, do all the tasks. "Check climbing team's readyness" can be tricky, for this one you need to first start talking to your group members and only then select the "check" interaction. It took me a long time to realize this. Whenever I tried starting it off with "check readyness" the interaction never started. - Make sure to bring power bars. I had to grow my own fruit to make them. Give them to the other members of your climb team.

...Townies that you bring along will always succeed, regardless of their skill....
What? Seriously? How do you know that? Have you done the excursions multiple times? Man, I wish I'd known that. I moved someone in with my Teen that was living alone just so I could train him to at least Level 6 and buy him climbing equipment so she could do the climb. So, you could take just any random townie off the street with you on the excursion and they'll climb the last walls without a problem at all? Gah! How is that fair? :D
Also, thanks for the tip about the 'Check team members for readiness.' I was confused why that wouldn't complete at first too. It completed after I talked with my Sim's team member, but I didn't put 2 & 2 together that was the reason it finally did complete. Great hints!
I'd also like to add, don't waste your time taking any deterrents with you. You won't need them. At least my climbers didn't. Taking a tent as suggested is very important! Their energy drops very quickly on the excursion and they'll need that since a tent isn't always spawned in the different areas when you move on during the climb. I think other than food, that's the most important piece of equipment.
I'd also suggest having them use their earbuds for fun if you have the Fitness SP. Just turn it on for them, don't choose 'listen to' and their fun will increase automatically without you having to tell them to do something for fun. They'll stay on until your Sim sleeps, then you'll need to turn them on again when they get up.
Good luck and Happy Simming! <3 "Karababy52;c-17771161" wrote:

I learned that early on when I didn't know about the minimum climbing skill yet and just went up "let's see how far they get" style. I had two households, the Renegades and the Behr. Whenever a sim was an uncontrolled guest, they made it up every wall, even when the the option didn't even come up for them while being in the active household. It's really jarring.
Also guests are VERY singleminded, they practically start dashing towards the walls the moment your group arrives at the onsen, do the climbing part and then stand around at the waypoint. One time Yuki waited for hours up the third wall while my controlled sims with below 6 climbing skill build snowpals and had winter fun down on the platau until the timer ran out.- Sketch7935 years agoSeasoned AceI took a tent, a barbecue grill, and the portable shower from Outdoor Retreat.

Do I bring snacks, tents, a place to potty?
I didn't bring any of those things, however, my sim was a vampire. >:) - xErasedCitizenx5 years agoNew RookieHmm, so townies will always succeed, I wonder about played/playable sims in another house? Like, say your sim's adult child has moved out and you invite them along but you know they don't have level six rock climbing?
Might have to try this out! It does seem strange that they would allow you to invite someone who can't possibly physically succeed, maybe it kinda gives guests an invisible temporary 'can climb anything' buff to ensure you can succeed. "xErasedCitizenx;c-17772940" wrote:

The Behr and the Renegades were both marked played when they got their miraculous climbing skills, so it's not just townies. Every sim in a household that isn't the currently active one will succeed. Sorry for being unclear about this.
