How do I put out the fire?

I had a sprinkler system work when it was on the inside of a fireplace chimney, which is technically a separate room. I guess it could have been a one off, hate to have you rely on it and lose a Sim, but it did work. I do usually pair them with a fire alarm as well, but the sprinkler system always seems to have around 30 seconds to a minute of a delay in my game, while the alarm goes off quite soon. As far as I know, exactly how fire alarms and sprinkler systems work isn't written anywhere on these forums by the devs. I'm sure, knowing The Sims ethos, this is on purpose. >:)

In electronics under the fire alarm icon there is a smoke detector/alarm it's round, and a sprinkler control box.

I had a fire break out of the fire pit and start spreading, while my Sim was camping in Granite Falls (two separate occasions). I honestly TRIED TO make my Sim put a fire, but for some reason, the game wouldn't do it. When I told her to "extinguish" the fire, she'd go to the fire but the action cancelled. I even tried to use the "walk to" then the "extinguish" action, but this only made her go to the fire, then causing my game to crash. After the second fire, I stopped going to Granite Falls. I don't even want to buy the fire pit (out of fear and superstition).

I've had a fire BEFORE - my Sim's stove caught fire - but was able to extinguish it. Even SHE caught on fire for a bit, but a jump in the shower fixed that.

I don't know WHAT is up with my game. I used to be able to extinguish fires, but it's gotten to where I can't anymore. :/ I'm hoping it'll be fixed soon, as I'm living in fear of losing my Sims to fires and not being able to save them.

As for the damage, you should get a pop-up notifying you that the insurance has paid X amount of Simoleons for the lost item(s).

Insurance rarely is. Now, the thing is while on the lot where my Sims live, this interaction happens. Not so, when they were camping. I lost my first Sim to an unfortunate grilling fire. Totally unexpected. The family, which included her husband and ghostly father-in-law, didn't lift a finger. Nor could I find a way for them to help her. I sat there helplessly watching as the fire consumed my Gen. 2 heir's wife. But, at least I got a Death of a Different Color, so to speak. Previously, they had all died of old age. :open_mouth: I rolled with that punch and found a way to blog about it, too, that advanced the unfolding storyline in my Legacy Challenge.

So a couple nights ago, my female Sim was at the outdoor retreat and the bench she was sitting on in front of the fire pit caught fire. She just kept sitting there reading while she was burning and her husband was literally jumping up-and-down freaking out. I set her up to get away from the fire but it took three times before she finally did, then she went right back and sat down again! I finally got her husband to extinguish the fire. Last night, the hermit was over finishing up an herbalism recipe on the stove which caught fire. He just stood there burning and I couldn’t get either one of my husband/wife team to extinguish the fire, so I was awfully glad I had the smoke detector and sprinkler system, because eventually they saved the day. And talk about realism: the insurance paid 364 simoleons but it actually cost well over 2000 to replace everything. Just like in real life!

If you sim catches fire run them to a shower.
