How do laundry and outfits relate?

It would be great if doing laundry directly related to owned clothing. So for example, you can't wear a particular article of clothing because it's dirty.
An aspect I never understood with clothing stores. Why pretend to be buying clothes when in fact you have access to the entire library of clothes???

In the trailer it shows someone wearing a stinky outfit. Is this because they haven't showered or because the outfit needs to be washed? Can you put a specific outfit in the wash and if you can, will it disappear from your outfit lineup? Or are we just constantly washing nebulous piles of laundry that appear as you change from PJ's to day. Day to swim. Swim to party?

    You can have very sexy wohoo in them.
    That's enough for me. (It's basically what I use hot tubs for, as well).

    That said... It's not more pointless than the fact that you can't edit your sims looks for some reason... unless you click on a mirror, and suddenly you have almost completely unlocked CAS.
    Oh, and I Hated Hated HATED the "must buy clothes" thing in Sims 2. But on the other hand the idea of having to go shopping at all (IRL or in SIMS) is utterly, UTTERLY boring to me. Why on EARTH would I go shopping if I can order it online?

    Yeah that is my thoughts too. What's the point? They should have just patched this into the game or something. It's not really worth it's on pack just to get laundry machines and some new clothes.
