You've got a lot of great answers already. I do have separate community worlds, though I think of them more like neighborhoods in one weird Sim world. Magnolia Promenade and Windenberg are completely commercial. The rest of the neighborhoods are completely residential with only a few exceptions like the Strangerville Information Center, the bluffs, etc. Places that are best left where they are.
I've built most of my lots, downloaded a few. And every neighborhood has a "theme", which helps me decide where I'll go next. For example, Henford on Bagley is all manor houses like Hillingham (Dracula) and Orchard House (Little Women). All off the grid. So If I'm in the mood for some Victoriana, I'll move into that neighborhood.

Do you like having completely residential worlds? I thought of trying that quite a long time ago but I remember beginning to convert some of the community lots in Willow Creek and Oasis Springs and they didn't look right due to the commercial surroundings.

I do like it! I admit it takes some effort to build the right thing in the right place sometimes because of the background scenery, but I still prefer that set up.

I would love to see some of your builds where there is more awkward surrounding scenery.
