How do you find dead sims?

If an NPC sim dies or any other sim for that matter but not in front of you or anywhere where you might think they would be located, how do you find their urns??? This has a been a problem for a long time. Have the devs fixed this dilemma?

I don't know how helpful this is to you but if you have Get Together then every Wednesday (I think) is Ghost Night at the bars and various ghosts will show up. If the NPC ghost you are after showed up at one of these bar nights you could befriend them or add them to your household?
