How Do You Manage Your Population?

Do you use mods? I use MCCC for story progression, and every now and then I will go through all my neighbourhoods and move in random sims/families from the gallery to fill my population. I move them all to unplayed households, and MCCC lets them age, pair up and get married automatically, have children etc. And then when it feels like I need more children because my legacy family is about to start a family, I'll move in a bunch of families with young children. And when my legacy sims are YA then I'll move in a few single YA's to socialise with/meet and start relationships. I really like how it works. The sims I've chosen get married and develop these lives without me having to do anything much :)

If I didn't have MCCC I'd probably do the same with downloading sims from the gallery - it's a really quick and easy way to keep things fresh, and change populations, without having to do a huge amount.

I play with aging off. I filled every neighborhood with either gallery families or self made sims. I make sure they are sims I want to see around because they don't age or die. Then at some point I made sure I have an equal amount of kids and occults sprinkled through out. That's basically it. I just add delete or edit households as needed.

MCCC handles my adults and elders births/marriages etc. YA's just chill until they age up to adults or I marry them into a playable family. Unless aging is off of course, then they mostly stay static unless I turn on neighborhood aging for some babies to turn into toddlers, then they age in three day increments lol. Otherwise, they are mostly ignored.

I rotate between a bunch of households. I've switched some households to unplayable when I'm rotating away for a while. I tend to only age the household I'm playing because I have households that I plan to come back to. Eventually I'll age up the unplayables. I'll probably do some pairing off beforehand.

Also, periodic culling. I sometimes cull townies myself and I might eventually cull others if my rotation gets too big, if so, I'll say that they moved away. Every so often, I add new sims in different ways with different back stories. It currently works for me.

Recently, I played again after a break and I've got all these different sims running into each other. It's fun. I guess I like doing things myself.

There are times that I'll build or spend time managing households or doing other game admin. It doesn't take me that long though. Making a new sim, I'll say, "Alright, I need to cast a sim." I might have a description or some key characteristics, I'll then either make one in CAS or pick a townie to edit into acceptability. So far, it's not all cousins dating each other (or any). It's a lot of different socio-economic brackets.

So, a rich teen falls in love with a poor sim from the wrong side of the tracks but the parents don't approve, for example. Or, the parents kind of don't care and the new couple has to figure out how to make it on their own. Some interracial couples, some LGBT, some really religious, some Sulani locals whom I ignore in other worlds (sure, I'd take a setting to restrict sims to certain worlds), one vampire. Some pre-mades, some not, at this point, some children of pre-mades in a new generation. I have new Goths who are like 3rd cousins of the originals. It's a mish-mash, I guess but I like that. Everyone's got a back story even if it's just a sentence or two.

I do legacies. I also use MCCC to marry off and make babies for the other sims. Occasionally I'll go through and delete houses full of uggos or lower the population so that i can insert some new NPCs. I'm a fan of BetterTownies from the gallery for this purpose.

You'll be surprised at how many NPCs end up looking gorgeous thanks to genetics. The Behr line, for example, is one of my favorites for later generations.

I really, really, REALLY enjoy this aspect of the game (population control). I don't want to play these households but I love to watch from afar.

When I use mccc I set it so the couples can have kids and pair up guys and gals both have babies doesn't matter to me and I have it check only a few days so they aren't overrun. When I don't use mods I may pick a few families at random to mix in with my main family and those will be switched out with other families or the rotation will get an add on leaving most families alone unless I'd really like a random couple to have more kids. Sometimes I may choose families I've shared and not played or gallery sims just to have someone else whichever I'm in the mood for. That said I only sometimes take pity and do makeovers.

I use MCCC for my population control. Thanks to reading several ways of tweaking the settings, I no longer have massive sim invasion. I used the pregnancy and population controls to get my sims down to a reasonable amount, lord.

I don't know how people without Deaderpool's mod manage their story progression. I was pulling my hair out before I dl'ed his mod. :D
