How do you sort your CC?

I'm just curious of how others sort their CC into folders, and why :)

Do you sort by general content (like a CAS content, build-mode content, script mods), more specific categories (hair, shirts/shoes, furniture, etc), sort by the CC creator, or by date? ... Or just go chaotic evil and throw it all in the main mod folder lol!

Personally, I started sorting by specific content back when TS4 first came out (and I wish I still did because there's a lot I wish I could find and remove now, lol). But the last couple years I've been sorting by download-date, so when something breaks in-game or my game won't even launch, I know exactly when to trace it back to.... With the exception of script mods. They break/need to be updated randomly, so they get their own folder lol!

  • I have it mostly organized by category.

    Womens clothing
    Womens shoes
    Womens hair
    Men's clothing
    Men's shoes
    Men's hair (includes beards)
    Genetics (sliders etc)
    Makeup (includes skin)
    Toddlers
    Children
    Eyes
    Pose packs

    And so on
Occasionally I do by creator if I have a lot from one creator.

I have a test folder so I can remove anything that causes an error or mesh issue more quickly

My BB items are all in one folder annoyingly i didn't do as well organizing it
  • I have a folder for CAS and one for B/B. The B/B is labeled with name of the "pack" it came with like the Pufferstuff pack or Tiny Twavelers. The CAS is labeled by CAS category.
  • I sort by content. Originally I had a double set of most main categories (CAS, BUY, BUILD), one permanent and one temporary, but these days I find that most of my cc stay permanently anyway.

When I dl new files, I'll save them to folders like "test in game", "test in CAS", "test in Build".

When tested, I'll move them to the main folders, and for most of those there are subfolders (CAS>hairs, CAS>clothes, CAS>costumes/uniforms, CAS>Jewelries etc.)

If I have many files in a main folder from the same cc creator, there might be a folder for that creator instead of using sub categories.

One reason for saving everything temporarily to the "testing" folders, is of course to test that they work, but also to edit tags, filename and cost etc. To make it easier to find stuff in the BB catalog, I try to use the price tag for sorting similar content, ie a janitor's tools, office stuff, deco food etc. I also remove any CAS "situation" tag, or random possibility. I wish we could edit those tags and cost also for EA made content...
  • and this reminds me why it is best that I never download any CC. I would wind up with such a mess of files and I'd never keep track of them. I always remind myself my computer would melt under the strain of all the CC (and mods) I would have - and there would always be "just one more" I would have to have.

Some of them are so tempting, though *slaps self* No, Ishy, no! ;)
