How long do Elder sims live for on average?

I can't stress how frustrated I am at not being able to find this information anywhere online. I recently created a custom lifespan package for my game because the normal lifespan was too short, but the long lifespan was too long. Anyway, I set my own preferred amount of days for each life stage, but simply left the elder field as the default number which was already in the package I was editing. (It was something massively disproportionate like 180 days)

In a nutshell, I need to know the average amount of days an elder sim will live for on normal lifespan or else I will eventually have a whole town of elders who are living for hundreds of days.

Thanks for any help, even a rough estimate, or just the amount of days your elders have lived would be really helpful!

  • Some of my elders which I play often live for a long time but there are others whose life span is extremely short. I would think you could make the days 3/4 of what the other life spans have for days and you would have a medium that you could live with,.
  • @jimmysnan Ok great, right now I'm considering somewhere in the region of 30-40 days? I don't want to make it too short in case one of my sims falls well below the average and dies after 10 or so days.

Sounds right. Make their days count and they will live the longer time span.

On normal settings, elders live for 10 days.
On Short settings, they live for 5 days.
On Long settings, they live for 40 days.
  • Often the recent save files I play I think it glitches out because i've been stuck on the elder stage for quite some time now. I'd say 3.4 months, awaiting on the death of their father. I might need to double check if it's a glitch or not.
  • When it sima get to elders, it shows how many days your sim has lived, not how long they have left :) You kind of just have to judge it bases on the bar that fills up

@Minstrel most of my elders on normal age span live in total for about 80 days. If your sim completes the Body Builder aspiration they usually live an extra 10-20 days max. Or if they have the active trait too.

3 days baby, 12 days child, 12 days teen, 20 days YA, 20 days Adult, approx 20 days elder (this includes the time after they get the first death warning from Grim when the age bar is filled) = roughly 80 odd days.

A lot of elder sim only live for 10 days as they die just about immediately after getting the death warning from Grim.

  • You can't find static info on it, because it really does vary.
I've had some elders live so long I began to think my game had glitched and they were immortal (they did eventually die, so it wasn't a glitch). I play on long lifespan, so that also matters. There was a tweet by one of the Gurus awhile back that confirmed there is no static lifespan for elders, meaning how long they live is variable and will change from elder to elder. There has been some debate on whether lifestyle matters, but I'm not sure if there was any official word on whether it actually matters if they're fit and eat well, or if those things are just coincidental.

This is the lifespan sheet the Wiki displays.

In short, your town of elders will die off at varying rates. I don't play on Normal lifespan, so I'm unfamiliar with how many days it takes for your elder lifespan bar (the one that counts how many days they have lived) to fill up and start glowing, but however long it takes for that to happen in your game, is when the clock starts ticking for real on your elder sims. They won't die of old age until that is full (at least none of mine ever have). That will be your average for whatever lifespan you're playing on, as they can die at any moment from that marker and forward.
  • I had one elder live to 118 days on normal, since that's all I play. I didn't think he would ever die. Part of the equation seems to be what their lifestyle is. I made the mistake of having them exercise regularly and eat nothing but healthy foods. So that does seem to have a bearing on elder lifespan. After that, even when they are athletic and exercise a lot I have them eat less than healthful foods and their lifespans are easier for me to manage.
