How long does a childhood/teen phase last?

I'm not real sure since I have several game saves and I go back and forth often especially when frustrated or bored. LOL I've heard that if your "caregiver" sim talks to them about their phase that the phase will be shorter. I currently have one who is in the loud phase and she turned up the radio full blast which made her sister's boyfriend very angry. (In that game, a teen and her child sister lost their mom and the teen had to quit school and raise her sister -- inspired by a YouTube LP. That teen is now an adult with a live in bf and twins of her own.)
