How long is a sim a young adult/adult?

I am trying to decide at what age a sim will go over to be an adult from young adult, and I think for me it would be about 40 years old. Only problem I feel like the sims make the adults look so much older than 40. How do you define the ages in sims 4?

Thank you all for letting me know how you define age in the sims :) I was considering for the first time to make my self sim and really struggled with if i was an young adult or adult ( I don't see myself as an adult sim yet ;) ) I also feel like the transition from adult to elders a huge gap in the Sims, I mean you just dont suddenly go all bent over when you walk.

I don't pay much attention to how they walk, but I do try to give them a gradual change when aging from A to E. A couple years before the elderly birthday I'll add the pepper hair tone (for black and brown hair, I wish there were pepper versions for red and blond hair, too!). Males with a beard may get a grey beard/moustache while hair is normal or pepper version. In RL beard and hair will not necessarily turn grey the same year.
I also give the Elders glasses, unless my on-the-side dna string suggests the sim will never need glasses. I'll add wrinkles, and females will normally tone down their make-up when getting closer to E stage, A few will get more makeup heavy though, and it adds to make uniqueness.
I also adjust their clothes, especially making shirts longer as they age. If there is an elderly woman wearing mini shirt, she should also be eccentric or have a makeup dedication.

I might wait with the grey hair until they have been elders for a couple years. A few females (and males?) dye their hair as elders - actually making them look even older, but don't tell them ;) Differency is good.

So there are ways to avoid the A-turns-E overnight :)

I'll be 39 next month and I limp around sometimes because of a troubled knee :P
  • imo young adults are 18-35, adults 35-65, elders 65 plus. i like to edit my sims throughout each stage for realism's sake, gradually aging their bodies/hair and maturing their style, especially during/after major life changes. like pregnant sims get face shine, young teens get light acne, older teens and college kids get heavy acne or enlarged pores, and if a sim was a heavy juice/nectar drinker in their young adulthood i give them flushed faces when they become adults. i was actually just thinking about cc shopping for more high quality skin details cc for aging/lifestyle purposes.
